I'm pre-op as well and I haven't wrestled with this at all: I share my belief that losing over 100lbs on my own is not realistic for me. I tell them about the pain in my lower back/knees/feet and how excited I am about being pain-free for the first time in a long time. And then I tell them I thank God I have this option. This is the same way I've lived my life for 55 years Once I have the surgery and start losing weight I'll handle the questions the same way. If the topic turns negative I have the option of not engaging with anyone who is negative about my choice. And then I'll keep losing weight and frolicking through the tulips with less pain. The End. 😊😜😁👍🏽 💃🏻

Hi everyone! I'm Anyse ( or Esme ) and completely new to the site. I'm 25 years old and was sleeved on Friday March 10th, 2017. While I'm here looking for a good support group/system, I figured I would try to look for others who maybe in my area who are looking for a journey buddy as well. I'm from Delaware County Pennsylvania and have lived here most to all of my life. So far I am on day 4 of my post op liquid diet and already feeling more great then I have felt in a very long time. I can't wait until I feel ( and look) even greater.

I sure hope so. I am still scared, but I feel a little better knowing I don't need to get hernia repaired first and then go back for sleeve. I was up at my weigh in, which was a bummer.

    GERD or NAH?

Sounds like GERD. One of the big components of it too is having the feeling like you're going to burp but it winds up being regurgitated food/drink. Definitely get the assessment from your doctor though, they might order other tests too. I have moderate GERD/reflux going into a sleeve next month and crossing my fingers it doesn't make this any worse or I could be facing a revision too.

    Still waiting for approval

My surgery date was set for yesterday and I was denied again on Tues. So frustrating. My surgeon wants to appeal. I'm ready to just be done with all the BS here and head to Mexico. I'd actually pay less there then my out of pocket with insurance here!

    Met Surgeon, feeling dissapointed

Oh Lizard, I was mad as hell too. I really was. It took two weeks from me before I talked myself back up. When I initially left the office, I was like you. As soon as he said that, I thought "I'm going to show you!" Now, when that day comes and I'm finally135, I'm sure he'll forget he ever said that and tell me 'Of course you could lose all your weight with the sleeve'. You know that's true, but either way, I'm losing all this weight and more. Pertaining to the vitamins, I am such a bad pill taker. I really am. But as soon as I was approved by insurance, they emailed me a slew of information, one of them being my needed daily vitamins. It said as soon as I read this, start the vitamins right away to build up a supply. So I have, which is good because it's a little tricky. There's a time frame around all these vitamins in what not to take with what. For instance, I'm on a synthroid pill where I can't take pretty much anything with, just to be safe. I take that at 5. My multivitamin and calcium can't be taken together. Those, too, need four hours apart, and both need four hours apart from my synthroid. It's been a little over two weeks and I feel like I'm now getting the hang of it. So, yes, I'm glad I started early because this is the last thing I'll want to deal with when I'm recovering. So, I take my synthroid at five am, I take my B Complex-50 with my multivitamin at ten o'clock, calcium #1 at two o'clock, and calcium #2 at dinner. And guess what? I'm actually taking them and not hating it. In fact, that B complex-50 is pretty amazing in helping me with boosting my energy and supporting my metabolism while I'm low carbing right now in preparation for my surgery. You'll love that vitamin!

    Terrified of gaining

I can ditto every word Gail said!! I can understand being terrified of weight gain but it may happen, as it did for me, and I've managed to not go crazy and gain everything back. I lost 65 lbs in a year, and gained 15 back after putting my dog to sleep. I didn't go off the deep end, just made bad choices because I didn't care about anything but my grief. Now I'm back on track and losing again. I'd like to be back where I was at my one year follow up appointment, at my two year in June. Then maybe lose the last ten. No matter what, this surgery was a success for me, and I'm exactly where I need to be. I learned a LOT about myself through all this, especially about why I always turn to food, and am continuing to learn.

    Anyone in the Cleveland area?

I love Dr. Khaitan. I was sleeved on April 2, 2015 at UH Geauga. Follow her plan and you will do great. She is so thorough and worked with my GP and pulmonary for my sleep apnea to get all my ducks in a row. I went February 16th and six weeks later I had my surgery. I also had my gallbladder out at the same time. I did have buyer remorse for awhile and went thru depression. But once my GP got my anxiety meds adjusted and I upped my Vitamin B12 and D and got my exercise in I started feeling better than ever. I have lost 100 lbs. and I work at it everyday to maintain. Now I am so happy I had my sleeve done! Sent from my SM-G930P using BariatricPal mobile app
