I can't believe that I'm down 50 pounds since surgery on 11/22/16. I'm down 62 since 8/3/16. Best decision ever! I feel so much better and I can't wait until I can see the difference in my body. However, my clothes do feel bigger and I can comfortably sleep on my stomach lol so wins there! I can't wait to continue this journey. Question: Does/has anyone experienced incision pain more than 3 months after surgery? Just curious as I joined a boot camp and things such as burpees cause pain in my incision site. Thanks! 4 weeks post op

Almost 4weeks post op and I've tolerated most things I've tried. Lots of soups, cottage cheese, canned peaches, bananas, mashed sweet potato, yogurt, re fried beans, scrambled eggs, chicken and very lean ground beef. I add one or two new things every other day or so. Only thing I did not tolerate well was a soft crab cake I tried to make. Holding off on seafood for a little while.

    4 weeks post op

I'm 5weeks post-op and I found that Boca veggie burgers, Greek vanilla yogurt, 93%lean ground beef meatballs, and baked chicken breast shredded worked well for me. Shrimps, fish and eggs too.

Wow. It's cool that your employer lets you put that much into a flex spending account. I'm already close to spending the max of mine ($1,400) this year. I talked to my NUT about my FSA and Vitamins. I think as long as you have one of those letters of medical necessity, you can get the cost of those reimbursed, too. Thanks for the share! Hope you're doing well one month out!

Myths about exercise and weight loss?

My reproductive endocrinologist was the first to tell me that weight loss is only about 60 to 70% percent "calories in vs. calories out". The rest is hormones, body content, genetics, etc. So, if you eat way more than you put out, yes, you will gain weight. That's how most of us got in the shape we were in. I had a test done to see how many calories my body needs to operate. My body needs at least 1350 calories to breathe, operate, and function. (I had this test done a year and a half after surgery). Due to my activities, I can eat up to 2050 a day and not gain weight. If I ate that many calories everyday, however, I would put on weight. That's just how it is. I eat about 1400 to 1700 on any given day. This Saturday, I am running a half marathon, and will probably end up eating close to the 2000 mark. Exercise and food go hand in hand. You cannot out-exercise a horrible diet, and you cannot just eat so little without exercise. Well, you could, but you would have no muscle and would kill your metabolism. Everyone's bodies are different. Often, it is the types of food we choose to eat and the exercise one chooses. You have to do what is best for your body. For me, I do a mix of cardio and weight training. The cardio helps burn fat, but the weights help trim and tone.

    Food Diary

Is it only whey based Proteins you're having issues with? I had issues with whey Protein immediately following surgery (not anymore) and I temporarily used a pea or rice based vegan protein source that worked great. You might try that and see if it helps because I'm about 8 months out and I still find it difficult to get enough protein in via food sources without supplementing some Protein powder. That being said, there are some good lean sources of protein to include in your diet. Of course, I am not certain what stage you are in, so this would be considering you are at a point where you can consume these foods, but the best sources of protein for me have been chicken, fish and turkey with the occasional lean beef mixed in. I also juice a lot of leafy green vegetables which adds a variety of amino acids and protein as well. You can juice far more greens than you can eat, so it does add some good healthy sources of protein into your diet, as well as an entire host of Vitamins, minerals and nutrients, not to mention hydration. If I'm going to snack, I try to snack on healthier things that will add some protein as well. Things such as low/no fat Jerky (I dehydrate my own beef/chicken/fish), nuts and seeds (raw and unsalted), hard boiled eggs, Sonoma Creamery Mr. cheese O's Snacks (you can find them on Amazon), low-fat string cheese or the light babybelle cheese snacks. I try to stick with natural "whole foods" whenever possible. Best of luck!
