    Today's the DAY!!

It is finally here! My surgery day is today! Gotta be to the hospital by 1pm! I have already prayed for a good outcome! One of my support systems will drive me to the hospital, one will meet me there! Hubby will be there as soon as he gets off work! Everything's moving right along! Phase 2 of my new healthier lifestyle begins!!

Okay! Here it goes. I had surgery on the 17th of Feb. Today marks 2 weeks post op. Surgery went well. Spent 3 days and 2 nights in the hospital. The 1st day I accidentally ate an orange and almost died. The 1st week I did well. Protein shake and Oikos yogurts and pain pills. The doctor told me to increase my Water intake but I just can't drink two bottles a day. This week I felt hungry. I was starving. The Protein shakes weren't cutting it. I decided to start soft food earlier. He's the confession. I would chew the food and spit it out. I had some meatballs, and fish, and food I know I shouldn't be eating. I told myself that because I'm not actually swallowing it then I should be fine. Today I feel horrible. I know that habit is a bad one and I should stop before it gets out of hand. I decided to start this week over and go back to full liquids. Today I restocked on protein, yogurt, Jello and water. I'm going to do it the right way this time.

I can't believe that I'm down 50 pounds since surgery on 11/22/16. I'm down 62 since 8/3/16. Best decision ever! I feel so much better and I can't wait until I can see the difference in my body. However, my clothes do feel bigger and I can comfortably sleep on my stomach lol so wins there! I can't wait to continue this journey. Question: Does/has anyone experienced incision pain more than 3 months after surgery? Just curious as I joined a boot camp and things such as burpees cause pain in my incision site. Thanks! It is a little annoying to not have her support. I am considering getting the gastric sleeve. Has anyone had any problems re to their surgery post op and if so who do you go to when your surgeon is in Mexico?

Find a new PCP. Life is too short to deal with ignorant, small minded people. My daughter is a gastroenterologist and she's the one who actually set up my surgery with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana. VSG was still considered experimental in the US when I had mine done, so she got recommendations from her colleagues in the international bariatric community. And as an RN myself, I certainly recognize quality medical care. It's just too bad so many US trained doctors think they are better than everyone else (believe me, I worked for several of them). But there are also many out there that aren't bigots and care about their patients. Find one of them.

    Back Pain?

My back was killing me for the first 5mths post op. I started seeing a chiropractor and he said that it had to do with the drastic change in body shape. Basically, your back had to reshape and conform to "a new you". Because you weren't carrying as much weight. It does get better. I was getting adjustments for 6 mths after my surgery. I am almost one year out and it's alot better. Good luck and congratulations and the weight loss.

    Almost died

@Jill_Me I never thought of that. It did strike me as odd that anyone would come home from major surgery and peel a orange and eat it.

    Feeling kind of betrayed

I was warned by a friend who went thru this surgery years ago to watch for your husband trying to sabotage your results. I was two weeks post op on V day. Still on liquids and my husband walked in with my absolute favorite chocolate covered strawberries. I got so upset with him. He say well " I know you can't eat these so I'll eat them" . He did that just to be mean and I'm not falling for that this time.! I lost 100lbs on my own years ago and he did everything he could till I felt bad about it and gained it back. Don't let anyone come between you and your success.
