Looks like March 2 for my sleeve!!!!

Ok people.....s@$% just got real!!!! My dietitian called me earlier n the week nd told me to start my 2week preop liquid diet no later than 2/22/17. I asked her about a date for surgery, she said she wasn't told of a date, just to have me start the diet. Me being a good patient-for once-said ok and started the diet. Well.....I got the best call today-my surgeon's office called me this morning to move up my follow up appointment from my 2nd EGD (done last week) to this Friday 2/24/17. When I asked why was the appointment being moved and why I was told to start the diet without a date, SHE SAID THE DOCTOR IS ANTICIPATING DOING MY SURGERY NEXT THURSDAY, 3/2/17!!!!! OMG, I'm so estatic!

he actually suggested bypass to me initially, as he thought it had the best evidence of long term success since i'm still so young. I just wasn't comfortable with the idea of a bypass, and when I told him he was totally onboard with me doing a sleeve instead. very supportive! nope, I am travelling to Calgary to him. even though I live basically in Edmonton, the wait list for their program is so astronomically long compared to Calgary's I decided I'd rather just make the drive! it's been a lot of kms, but even with asking for a referral to the Edmonton clinic MONTHS before asking for a referral to the Calgary one, I am on course now to have my surgery in Calgary before even getting my intake appointment in Edmonton. I left myself on the Edmonton waitlist just out of grim curiosity, but will remove myself once I have my surgery. I'm sure somebody else will be overjoyed to take my spot! i had my scope in High River as well. if you haven't had one before, don't sweat it. the worst part of the whole process is the nasty numbing spray for your throat. you don't remember anything else of the procedure, and you wake up high as hell and they're feeding you muffins! the nurses there are amazingly kind and good at their jobs, too.

    Weigh in help

Hi not sure if you'd get denied, I guess it all depends on your insurance. My insurance just told me I have to gain weight by the 1st of march because my bmi is under 50 and my insurance will deny me. I have been eating high carbs since last week I'm just hoping I've gained, I really can't tell.

    Weigh in help

My water weight fluctuates extensively so I was nervous about my last weigh in. Stay away from excessive sodium and hydrate as much as you can! I had protein drinks and minimal carbs 2 days before weigh in and was able to lose 4lbs. I scheduled early in the morning as well to get the lowest weight possible. Good luck!

    Weigh in help

First off can you reschedule it secondly drink lots of water and eat a lot of good foods that will not make you gain weight and maybe take a water pill if you have any I hope you get to have your surgery you should tell your doctor to that's why you're up a little maybe he will take your last weigh-in.

Prednisone is a steroid notorious for causing weight gain. I've been on it several times since my VSG and have not experienced any regain. Bottom line is, no matter what medication you are taking, its still comes down to what you eat that causes regain. (And I don't count water weight because it's not "real" weight) You may just have to be a little more diligent about your diet plan if you are taking these types of medications.

Hi LuAnn! I'm in NJ also. I had gastric bypass in 2015, but I can give you a little advice. If you're going to be in the hospital more than one night, bring dry shampoo. I had to stay three nights and couldn't shower, so I wish I had mine! Bring Gas-x strips with you. I never had a problem drinking water before surgery but it was harder after, so I drank vitamin zero. Water just didn't appeal to me. And I haven't tried that brand of vitamins. Over the last year and a half I've tried a variety of multis, all chewable, bariatric geared, in the beginning. Now I'm able to take pills. I prefer the chewy kind.
