    The beginning...well, not so much...

I really relate to your story, I had the sweet tooth.. I could eat chocolate and ice cream forever!! not now , im 3 weeks post op and I am just introducing pureed, i am missing biting and chewing but once i have something to "eat" or drink that goes off. you will not regret this!! I went to Mexico for surgery and self paid and I had no problems with pain, some nausea but nothing else. Make sure you have chocolate shakes in ready!! it works. best of luck!

Getting Kicked Out of the Band

People can be so insensitive! I order soup when I go out and ask for a side plate to share with my husband...one or two bites on the side plate, no comments Why did your pouch dilate? Mine did, just slightly last year when my stoma just closed up, almost completely with very little fill. Since a complete unfill in June, I'm still dealing with band damage to my esophagus. Eating is a pain. Sorry you're dealing with this, I hope removal goes smoothly, hugs!

Getting Kicked Out of the Band

Don't ever give up on yourself. I got the band at 61 1/2 and it is the best thing I have done for me and the rest of the world. I can move. I eat in restaurants many times a week and have no problems. Tonight I had salmon from the children's menu and brought 1/2 home. I had lunch with a high school friend last week and did great. I just don't like breakfast out. I did go on Sunday with MIL and 2 of my grandsons and had 1 piece of toast because I had a shake at home. Have fun with the girls and your husband and enjoy life. I am from Boston and last week sucked here, enjoy yourself!!!!!!!!! Now call the girls for a night out and order smart. Arlene

I totally did! I didn't have any pre surgery requirements until 12 hours before surgery so I ate till my hearts desire. Went up 16 pounds by the end of it all but it was totally worth it because I had no cravings or real wants for anything afterwards and now 3 weeks out tomorrow I am down 35 pounds.

It's pretty normal, actually. It's called having a food funeral. Lots of people do it because they know they'll miss their favorites. I'm hoping I won't feel the urge to have a food funeral and hike my weight up before the surgery, but I wouldn't say that it's impossible for me to do it in any way I know that after the first several months, I will likely be able to have a bite or two of the foods I really miss, just not have it in the kind of volume that I indulge now. Because of that, at least at this point I don't have any real urge to have a funeral yet. That said, I do think I'll have a nice steak dinner shortly before my pre-op diet starts, just because I really like a good steak properly prepared. I don't need a huge steak, just one with great flavor Good luck!
