3 Weeks Post Op But I'm Not Feeling Too Hot

I was sleeved on July 2nd and still don't eat much solid food...it hurts. I'm okay with that, though. I stick to yogurt, peaches, oatmeal, and tomato or chicken noodle soup. Every once in a while I take a bite of something esle, and if it hurts, I stop. I feel great though and have lost 63lbs so I see no need to eat food that causes pain. I do miss food too, but I look in the mirror and remind myself that this was the right decision!!! The other day I really wanted some doritos, so I chewed it up and spit it out instead of swallowing. Got the yummy taste without the pain. Sounds gross, I know, but it satisfied my craving. Hang in there!!!! Just because we are "allowed" to have certain foods, doesn't mean they're going to work for us so don't push it and make yourself sick. Take good care of yourself and keep us posted on how you're doing.

I am a little over 3 weeks (sleeved July 30) and I can relate. It is harder than I thought to get solids down, and I miss being able to gulp water. I feel a little better each day and am learning to go very slow with eating. I am also in a stall, which makes it easier to regret. No answers for you...just wanted to tell you that you are not alone.

    Dont Wanna Rush

Hey girl, it's something you should take your time with. I just had my surgery on the 21st and was released from the hospital last night. I am doing fine. However, back to your topic. As everyone stated, insurance companies are all different. There will be some evaluations and clearances you will need to do, the question is with whom and how many. I had clearances for Pulminary; Heart; Psyc, (which was one visit); Nutritional Counseling, (at least three visits); Gastrology Clearance which included a endoscophy; attending of support groups, which I registered for for appropriate record of my attendance; and I could not miss any appointments with my surgeon. This entire process took about three months and my insurance company wouldnt even dare approve my surgery without a 3 month timeframe period. Heck my insurance company want to definitely make sure you are serious about the decision. LOL Yet the same time, my pulminary doctor recommended I have a sleep study done and the insurance company wouldnt pay for that...but that didnt preclude the surgery so it was all good. They just closely monitored my breathing while I was in recovery. With all this being done, it definitely FLEW by! Yeah I was always at the doctor's office, yeah I was kicking out co-pays; yeah it was alot to keep up with and felt overwhelming at times, but I believe it is better to be safe than sorry and also you'll feel more confident about your surgery knowing everything is all cleared. Best wishes to you sweetie!

I also have never heard of any insurance not doing the eval but my doctor never said anything to me either until I started the classes so I am sure they will inform you when you meet up with your doctor again..Good luck. It's a long journey before and after the surgery but it will fly by and you will be getting ready for your surgery in no time.

    Dont Wanna Rush

hey ive also ready a ton of requirements that i didnt have to go through but...every insurance plan is totally different and has special specific requirements. also my nurse at my surgeons office wrote out an entire 'work up' for me to make sure i dont miss anything. between the surgeons nurses and your insurance you should be able to get a clear answer

You should, of course, check with your doctor. Each insurance is a bit different on what they expect; but I have not heard of any that will accept the surgery request without a therapist eval and a few other tests... ASK ASK ASK!!!

Here We Go - Life, Part 2.

Amazing how, when you just reach out a little bit - as you did in writing and I'm doing in joining this forum 7 minutes ago and now responding - you find so many people sitting right beside you rowing the same boat. Comforting, at least. I am 47, 9 days post-op and have a very similar story to you. Always told I am beautiful, with personality and wit to match, but always overweight and riding the rollercoaster- and if there was one thing I would change about myself in the entire world, it would be to lose that weight. At any price. On the 6 year anniversary of my divorce, I got banded. I am now 9 days post-op and 10lbs down. Crazy!! I want my life back. I want to be everything I know I can be. I already run a successful business, have 2 great kids who are finally on their own (ish), great friends and family...but I want to feel loved and sexy and in order to get there I needed to do this for me. Insurance would not cover my costs either, as I didn't have enough to lose, and like you, I paid out of pocket - just some advice - I asked my surgeon if he would work with me on price if I paid cash and he actually came down a HUGE amount - over 40% of his fee! So ask and you might receive... This 9 day journey has been hard, but I'm 100% in so I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do. Questions have definitely come up and I'm hoping to find friends on this site that I can trust to find answers through their experience and advice. Thanks so much for sharing the start of your journey, and I look forward to reading more about you! Anything I can do to help - just ask!!! Meryl
