    2 Weeks Post Surgery

Well I lived through my sleeve surgery (this was actually a huge concern for me because I'm terrified of anesthesia). I am so happy to say I am down 25 lbs from my highest weight. It seems to be coming off so quickly. The first week after surgery was hell for me. The first couple days I was very depressed and questioning what the hell I did to myself. 2 weeks out now, I feel much better. The pain is minimal and I feel great energy-wise because I'm not eating crappy foods. I am still supposed to be on full liquids until the 17th but honestly, the liquids have been making me sick so I have been having a little oatmeal or some kind of shredded meat or a banana the past few days. I felt like a failure at first because of this but I am still doing great and I refuse to let myself feel bad for eating a little to avoid getting sick. I am making healthy choices and making sure I am getting in my protein, it's hard to get in 65 grams per day but I have been coming close. I am so happy to already be feeling better and have started back on an excercise regimen. I have about 55 more lbs to go to reach my goal weight and I am confident I will make it with no problem. I am really excited to go shopping but I refuse to let myself until i'm down at least another 15 lbs. I am so thankful the surgery went well and that the worst part is over--I wish much success to all who have been or are about to be sleeved!! Steph

Hello everyone, A few years ago, my husband was approved for and obtained an insurance-approved WLS. He was banded by Dr. Ren at NYU. This year I am going to be banded by Dr. Lopez in Tijuana, MX at Angeles Hospital. (obviously self-pay) I'm looking forward to making friends here so that we may help support each other during the good and bad times. I'm Ev, a former small business owner, currently returning to school to obtain my bachelor's in Secondary Math Ed. I'm excited to share this journey with my husband and with anyone who is supportive.

    Happy And Sad

Congrats on your weight loss! Sounds like your surgery went well. Sorry to hear your cat's not well. It's a hard thing to know she's on her last days. Just love her, make her comfy and remember the happy times.

Loose Skin Is Freaking Me Out....

Me too! I already see it on my thighs so it's making me workout even harder. The less skin the better. I've on lost 33lbs so I can't imagine when I've lost the 200lbs. But I'm happy and will deal with whatever comes my way.

Loose Skin Is Freaking Me Out....

I don't think that it's going to help you to be freaked out. I would say, just accept yourself however you are, and be very happy and grateful that you got the weight off. That is the most important thing, to get the weight off. You can wear certain clothes to hide it if you do get lose skin, but loving yourself however you are is so important. If it's something you can't live with, then you can always have it surgically removed.

I don't know why doctors don't tell you about this stage! You think it's you when it's really your body rebelling! I assume you are still in the mushy stage? If so, then here is what helped me: 1) Put protein powder in everything that makes sense... coffee, tea, soup, water, fruit smoothies, etc. 2) Reduce carbs..... they turn to sugar and cause cravings. 3)Increase fat. I know! Goes against the USDA Pyramid and everything we fluffy people have been programmed to believe. But our bodies are meant to burn fat, NOT sugar! Eat small amounts of healthy fats.... olive oil, coconut oil, nut butters and whole fat dairy. All in limited quantities of course. You will find that fat curbs your appetite and keeps you feeling fuller longer! 4) Eat small amounts 5 or 6 times a day. 5) Drink a glass of water 15-30 min before a meal. This helps with fullness, but more importantly, will quench your thirst until well after your meal. If you drink too soon after eating, the food will be digested quicker and you will be hungry again. This helped me get through the first 3 stages.... 1) Liquid, 2) Soft and 3) Bandster Hell! Stage 3 is the period your stomach has recovered from surgery (it's starving!), up to when you have had enough fills to feel restriction. It's Diet 101 time! And don't beg for fills too fast. Because your body needs to adjust and you need to adjust with the band. Once you get adequate restriction, you can start working on getting back to 3 small meals a day. I didn't get there until my 5th fill... 8cc's in an 11cc band. Everyone is different. So try to relax and give yourself time to get through the transitions. You can do this. Educate yourself, read and ask questions along the way. Talk to your doctor about your hunger. Keep a food journal and share with him/her. Focus and stay strong. You can do this!!
