    jars

From the album: My Journey <3

These are some jars I made (got the idea off of pinterest) as a visual encouragement for my weight loss. For each pound I lose I will place one marble into the "pounds lost" jar. feel free to use and share this idea if you want!

    I Choose

Just a short note. Who knows when I'll get back to this. I've gained weight since my DH's death. I won't blame anyone else but myself. I had a long talk with my therapist and we finally hit upon the catchphrase that seems to define how I'll lose all this weight-- I CHOOSE. I'm a control freak whose life spiraled out of control the day my poor Randy died. Since then, I've made decisions where I felt there was no other option. For over a year, I had to decide based on bad vs good, not which one suited me. Finally, my therapist (Dr Marty Groble, for those in the Jacksonville area) pointed out that what went into my mouth was one of the few things I had a direct choice in making. Well, my Band-Buds, it was an epiphany. There was my point of control, and I've been reveling in it for a couple of weeks. I've lost five pounds because I can look at the chocolate vs the peach and say "I choose the peach because I choose health." I have chosen to start walking again when possible. I've chosen to begin quilting again rather than sit on my butt playing mindless computer games. I've made so many choices, I'm smiling again. Even the house I had to move into when Randy's death forced me into foreclosure is no longer a point of resentment and negativity. I've chosen to make it work rather than move to something less congenial if prettier. Sure, this is a 2-bedroom house 30 miles from my job. It's in a gorgeous neighborhood with a park, as familiar and comfortable as my favorite pair of blue jeans, and it's cheap. I can have my pets here. An apartment close to my work would cost $200 more a month and we'd have to get rid of our pets. "We??" you ask? Yep, we. That gent who gave me the pearl ring? I chose not to marry him, but we're a happy pair of roommates. I chose him, too. Lena

    What Keeps You Going?

i tell myself that we are not going to have this talk and if we just go ahead and workout that we be done for the day and we both can be happy. I learned that you will disagree with working out but keep in mind that you only talking yourself out of doing it day, tomorrow, and the next day until you stop doing it all together. I am trying to get back to that point but it is taken longer than I though.

    Sooo Frustrated!

You have lost so much weight. I hope you are proud of yourself for doing that! Give yourself credit girl! Yeah it looks like you will have to step it up to get your weight loss going again, our bodies get used to things we do everyday and you have to change it up to get your body to respond differently. Try and walk everyday at least 30 minutes or more if you can. I bought a couple of DVD's and I work out to them as well and I go to the gym but I am not by any means a gym rat - I have to push myself to do this. Track your calories and up your water intake to 64 oz. Keep the carbs down if you can, summer is good for that a nice crisp salad for lunch! Good luck!!

    Sooo Frustrated!

Hi Ashleyxx, Have you tried working out as well. Sometimes working out will accelarate weightloss. If you have been working out, I know of a lady that her weightloss was slow but it was because of her workout regimen, she also was doing weights. I am sure you will get to your goal!! Don't get discouraged! :-) I am 4 months post op and I am starting to see a slow down. Mostly because I haven not been working out. I need to start... I mean I walk but I feel that it is not enough. I am sure I will boost my weight loss if I work out. Good Luck!

Sooo Many Questions.... No Answers :(

www.obesityhelp.com is a good website. There is a lot of information there. As far as protein drinks go, you need to check out the food forum under protein drinks. There are places you can order samples. It's best to do samples until you settle on something you like. Most people end up liking something after surgery, than they liked before surgery so it's best not to stock up on a lot of anything. It depends on your BMI on whether or not you will have to drink them pre-op or for how long. You will definitely need them after surgery. If you have a costco, the Premier protein drinks seem to be something everyone agrees on and is extremely popular.

All doctors have different diets and times. The most important thing is to get your protein in and fluids. You will not have room for carbs. You will not want them. Protein drinks will become your friend. My doctor want 4 drinks a day I could only get in 2-3. Seek out different brands and flavors. Watch the surgar and carb, People working out can have that not you. Sugar will make you sick after surgery. I did me and still does 3 month out. i just read alot on this page and learned alot. Seek out a support group or other tha have had the surgery. Good luck
