i was told to either go brush my teeth (Nobody wants to eat after that), chew on the end of a straw or munch soft ice when I wanted to snack from boredom and I'm already halfway thru a box of straws and I'm still PRE OP. but I'm down over 10 pounds

Is This All Normal? What Am I Doing Wrong?

I'm on clear liquids for the time in the hospital and then come home to two weeks of full liquids followed by 6 weeks of pureed before hitting soft foods. At 8 days it sounds like you are progressing pretty quickly. Also, I have been told that they usually pump in about 10lbs of fluid during surgery and hospital stay so to lose 7 lbs at 8 days is awesome! That's what I'm hoping to lose per month!

Is This All Normal? What Am I Doing Wrong?

Somebody had mentioned the trail mix to me, and surprisingly, it sits very well, but yesterday was the first time I had tried it.

    Day 8

I consider myself very independent.. but I know sometimes we wish someone would just hold our hand. I'm here for you =) I have my surgery on Monday. I asked for no one to go to the hospital and visit. The only two people I want there is my mom and my older sister. Don't feel bad.. Keep pushing yourself.. Its all worth it and YOU ARE WORTH IT =) <3 YA!!

Is This All Normal? What Am I Doing Wrong?

It's actually 11 days out now and although I too am on liquids, my doctor did say I can have anything that will go through a straw (just not actually use the straw) so I have had some very thin cream of wheat and potato soup. I'm having some digestive issues so I stopped even that, but my doctor said that if I felt ok after then I could continue to progress from very thin to puree.

    Omigosh! They Fit! They Fit!

Pretty soon you will be out of the plus size department. I had a lap band and will be sleeved on 6/27. I remember, though, that I was a 22 and could shop in the nicer stores. I was between a 10-12. Now I am a 14-16. Almost back to plus sizes, but won't. The sleeve is soon to be here. You will find you gravitate over to the plus size department and then realize those are not going to fit! Congrats!

    Im Starving!!!

At two weeks post-op you really can't eat whatever you want. Your stomach is still healing and putting solid food in it right now....well, I'm about 13 days post-op and the thought of it sends panic through me. This is the "white-knuckle" phase where you have to work through it. Exercise. Read a book. Drink water. Find something to block those thoughts. Most people take multiple fills to feel restriction. At this stage it really is "mind over matter" and you are putting yourself at risk by eating whatever you want. Sorry I don't have better advice for you Just tell yourself you ARE strong and you CAN do this. Keep your goal in mind....

    To Tell Or Not...

I have been banded for over three years and have told only two people - my husband and best friend. Here are my tips for eating out with others and keeping the "nosey nancy's" at bay : (1) Be very careful with what you try to eat. Avoid the bread, potatoes and other difficult food or you will need to explain why your eyes are suddenly watering, you sound like you're being strangled when you talk, or you have to lunge for the table to make it to the restroom. I tend to stick to soup or very small portions. My husband is also well trained in picking up the signs that I need a moment for a bite to pass and will fill in the conversation until I can talk again. In a pinch, I have gasped something like, "Went down the wrong pipe!" and then excused myself to go to the restroom. Fortunately, this has only happened twice. (2) Ask for a to-go box as soon as you feel comfortable and take a good portion of your food home. If you do this, it is not so obvious that you are sitting there with an almost full plate and you can eat it at home at a pace that is better for you and the band. (3) Tell people that you are a slow eater. Which is very, very true with a band. (4) Tell people you are dieting. Again very true. I tell people that as part of my diet, I have cut out things like bread and potatoes. (5) Go to the restroom during the meal, if only to walk around and let your food settle. This will give you some extra time where you are not just sitting there staring at your full plate or your dining companions. Good luck on the upcoming surgery! It was the best investment I have ever made in myself.

    Not Losing

I'm at the same place. Almost five months out and my weight loss has slowed to a sluggish crawl. It swings back and forth two or three pounds and finally nudged down a pound this morning. But it's crazy slow for how much food I'm NOT eating. I also hit the temporary hair loss thing at four months, and from what I've been reading, your body just kind of shuts down a bit at this time. Patience isn't my best virtue, but I'm working on it. I know by exercising and only eating healthy things, I'll get there eventually. But it always seems to help if I can commiserate with other folks, so thanks for the shoulder. Carol

    Not Losing

I feel your pain I am 4mo. and have stayed about the same for the last month! I have lost 45lbs but wish this stall would end. I think I will try cutting carbs and up the protien as my hair has been thinning should probably increase my exercize routine.. I have read alot of blogs seems like this happens to many but eventually passes we just have to have faith and do what we can. Good luck! If you find something that breaks the stall be sure and post.
