I am 4 weeks out of surgery... mild discomfort at the incision where the port is embedded. my fill is scheduled for march 22 . I weighed 197 pounds ( I am 5'3") when this process all began. Lost 9 pounds prior to surgery, and now I weighed in at 174 this morning. my goal is 137 and if this keeps up.. i'll reach my goal before the lap band even has a chance to work....(wishful thinking.. a girl can dream)...so far, without any fill.. the band is basically there.. but has no effect at all on me, my appetite, my food choices or indeed my life. I keep thinking of all the money I spent to install this little contraption...I sure hope fills are meaningful events in a lapbanders life.. cause every day i feel better, the hungrier I get... when i show up for my fill appointment I may have to not only get some descent ccs put in.. but i might have to get my mouth wired shut too.... it continues to be a struggle....

    Six Months And Still Loosing

You hit the nail on the head. I believe you are right we have all been through this at least once and I have had the same questions asked to me that you listed. They just don't understand and sometimes my husband didn't either but I believe he is beginning to see that I didn't do this for him or because I didn't think he loved me, I know he does. This is the man that I married when I was 17 at 155lbs and now I am over 200. He has seen in the best and worst times, I never once doubted that he loved me but in order for me to feel better about myself and to be able to live my life to the fullest. I had to do this.

    I've Been A Bad Girl...

You can fall into bad habits again. The surgery doesnt fix our head issues with food. It just keeps us from eating too much food at a sitting. Now soup is actually more liquid than anything else, so it can go through very quickly. Just because you drank 8 ounces of soup does NOT mean that you'll be able to eat huge amounts of food. You said that you basically failed to plan and ended up taking in more/wrong food. You already know that you're going to have to plan better from here on out. I assume you're on clear liquids since soup is freaking you out, so make sure you prepare things that are allowed at this stage and take them with you. Later, it's a good idea to keep a couple of protein shakes handy and/or carry a protein bar at all times. I do lots of driving, so I make sure I always have a protein bar in my purse. That way I don't stop and eat somewhere that doesn't have good food choices for me. BTW, you are NOT a bad girl. You're in a learning process right now and it does take some time! Good luck!

You are doing great lady!! You and I are running right together and 12 pounds is awesome!! I have found for me when I get to feeling a bit run down or my head is hurting, it is usually one of two things. I have forgotten to take my vitamins, I take calcium and a multi twice a day. Or I have let too much time go by without eating. For me I have to remember to eat. Congrats to your hubby and welcome him to bandland for us!

I really enjuyed reading your post. I was about to eat something wrong, my brain doesn't know I am full yet, but I decided against it. It was worth it and I am worth it. Thanks.

    Hello Coffee Addict!

I drink coffee every day - several cups - black but flavored (i.e., hazlenut, vanilla etc.) - it's just black cofee with a hint of flavor but no cream or sugar etc. so little to no calories. I've lost over 100 pounds in less than 8 months - so it hasn't harmed me on my journey! I have given up diet coke (and all pop/carbonated beverages/beer) - that about killed me but WELL WORTH THE SACRIFICE!!!!!

Well if you don't want to tell anybody about your surgery you can always say you have ulcers/gastroenteritis and are on a restricted diet for awhile. That way if you do get sick at work people will just assume its from the food and your ulcers. Good luck with your surgery!
