    Half Marathon Training

Last night I attended the introduction seminar for a running group to train for a half marathon to be held on July 4th. It was pretty exciting, I have to say. There were over 150 people there. We got a cool tech shirt and socks and a brief intoduction to the program. We will get together twice a week, Wednesdays at a track to work on speed and strength and on Saturday mornings for a long run. These runs will be all over town and in Vancouver as well, each week somewhere new with varying distances going up to a max of 12 miles. I bought a Garmin 405 GPS watch today which has a heart rate monitor. Last weekend, I bonked after 4 miles going at a 8:15/mile pace, so this morning, I slowed it down to a 9:00/mile and ran just shy of 5 miles and felt fine. One of my struggles is pace, so, instead of trying to pace based on time, I am going to pace based on heart rate. We'll give this a try so I can try to get a basic feel for a pace. Nutrition is also going to be one of my struggles. I am finding it difficult to eat enough. 1,200 calories isn't going to cut it running 4/5 miles per day. Just think when I am running 8/10/12 miles. I tried an energy gel this morning before my run, so that could be why I was able to do this morning bonk-less. It is going to be an experiment, for sure. I have some whole wheat spaghetti with chicken for lunch, so we'll see how I feel and recover. Also, I am running in the Valentine's Run on the 12th. I signed up for the 8K, which is 5 miles, so I should be OK with that since I am running that distance in training, now. I will continue to post on my training over the next 20 weeks or so leading up to the half marathon, so click on the Follow just above to the left if you want to stay tuned. I will post everything I learn about this training as it relates to me and my sleeve.

Hello I'm very new to this site and it looks like a great place for support. However, I don't see very many teens posting on here. I'm almost 18 and I'm getting banded on Feb. 10th! I am beyond excited!! Just looking for other teens that have been banded or are going to sometime soon for support, success stories, advise, etc..

    Operation Recommit

Here we are folks day two of recommitment to my weight loss goals ~!~ Sunday was kick off day. I didnt do too bad with food, considering I only had a scrambled egg for Breakfast and some sausage. I drank a lot of Water through the day. The day went so quick I just didnt feel like eatting. I had some issues going on that caused me GREAT stress, and since my band is stress sensative, its prolly for the best that I didnt eat. I guess that was something like the beginning phase of after lapband surgery...I did get some exercise in.. actually it was unintentional but HEY it happened. I was involved with an animal rescue...and I helped two other people spend three hours chasing a cat around... I caught the cat, I felt like Rocky catching the chicken!!!! Day two...I ate a lil more. I had a yogurt for breakfast and some coffee....lunch was salad and a Protein shake. dinner, baked chicken. I gotta admit, I am still hungry.. I know its not time for a fill yet. We will see what the rest of the week is like... Thanks all for your support.

    Home!

Got home last night - felt great after getting off the plane. The walk through the airport was another story - the airport is under construction so the signs don't actually send you in the right direction - must have literally walked a mile to get out of there to get to the shuttle to get to the car. I was pretty tired by then and getting irritable. Once we got outside though , the cool air reinvigorated me and I felt pretty good. I drove us home from the airport and my doggies were very happy to see us. Hubby did a good job keeping them from jumping up on me. Usually they sit in the recliner with me on my lap, which can't happen right now, so they're bummed and frankly, so am I about that Ah well, soon enough I showered today and cleaned my inscisions and recovered the one that my bra touches and also the one with the drain - I'll steri strip that one in a day or two - but it still has a little bit of drainage from it. Everything seems to look good - only one inscision is tender and that's the biggest one. I'm minding that. I take my temp regularly to ensure i don't have a fever and I'm good to go. Things are going very well

    Time Off Work?

unfortunately, i think it really does vary by person... my surgery was thursday and i'd planned to return this coming thursday. called my boss and and asked if i could cancel the vacation days & come back today (tues) & he said no. now im stuck at home, bored & being unproductive.. letting the few vacation days ive accrued pass me by! in my case i wanted to be safe instead of sorry because i really cant use sick time if i'd underestimated my recovery. i guess it depends too how flexible your work is. if you can go back sooner than youd said you would because youre feeling great, wonderful. or if youve got a sick day or two stored, keep them in mind. so basically... no straight answer to that question. lol.

I had my surgery on a Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. I felt fine.. Yes I had lil pain but not bad enough were I needed to be at home. I also walked the mall the saturday after surgery. It really helped with my gas pains.

    Drinking After Meals

It can also enlarge your pouch. You have food there that is blocked by the Band and can't go down, then you add liquid to it. The pouch will stretch. Not good over time...

Lap Band Surgery 10/11/11 - Newbie!

I was just banded Dec. 14, 2011, and looking forward to seeing my weight loss continue. The hardest thing for me being 2 days into my new life, is not being able to eat "real" food. lol Liquid diet and tomorrow I can start blended food (yeah) lol. I lost over 30 lbs pre-op so I just keep thinking positive. I understand your situation, but at least you have a source of income. I am unemployed and have been for over a year. It can be stressful and hard, but use exercise as a stress release rather then food. Comfort food was in our past lives, post-op we are new people with new goals and new habits.
