    Help

i went through that - and gas x did not help at all - they say that is only for intestinal gas not the type of gas they pump into you for the surgery. The gas hit me hard and was extremely painful from about days 3 to day 7 or 8 after surgery. After that it went away for good and i've never felt it since. You will see that this is temporary and you will go back to normal - it's just that you have to suffer through these few days. Believe me - 92+ pounds and 7 months after surgery that pain was a small price to pay. Well worth it. BEST OF LUCK TO ALL OF US ON OUR JOURNEYS!!!

    Fitness/exercise Planning

I am thinking of singing up for a 5k on my 30th Birthday, March 24th. I am debating if I have enough time to prepare. I can walk it right now... I'd like to be able to do more than walk though. Any suggestions for training outside of c25k? As soon as I get the okay from my doc I'll start resistance training again, and my stationary bike... and then some jogging/power walking would be good too. I think I can be in okay enough shape by my birthday to do it. Anyone else doing fitness/exercise planning? If so, what do you have planned?

    Feel Discouraged

I would stop the pretzels, instead choose chicken breast or string cheese. My doctor says to eat three meals a day no snacks. Have you bought a food scale? Measure out your protein (my doctor says 3 oz others say 4). Look for a low fat greek yogurt it has higher protein levels.

    Just Banded 1/24/12

First off congratulations. make sure you walk daily as much possible. You will have gas pains but they will subside. Keep in mind that right now it is about healing, not about losing weight. I have read a lot of post of people upset with themselves because they are not dropped major weight. They are only a few weeks out of surgery. So make sure you focus on healing, the weight loss will come. Make sure you are getting you protein in and taking multivitamins. That is important to healing. Get you rest and do not lift anything. Most important, follow the rules your doctor has provided. Congratulations again, and welcome to the journey.

    Popcorn And Nuts

I eat nuts and popcorn sometimes. They are not slider foods for me as they fill me up pretty quick. I have to make sure I chew them well or they will cause discomfort. I drink a glass of wine several times per week, but didn't have any alcohol for the first 6 months.

Thanks Bayougirl!! I will definitely double check on that. I spoke with my UHC Coordinator yesterday who has just linked me with my case manager RN who is going to call me in February and she didn't mention anything about the five year history so I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I know I may have a hard time coming up with 5 years worth. But I will definitely confirm the requirements when my case manager calls. Thanks!

She and I and everyone else, including you, can eat wtf they want - as long as they dont over eat (is that not the mechanical point of the band??), although you can go and live on lettuce water and fairy dust if you feel better about it. Live a little and stop being so bitchy about what someone else puts in their body.

    Soda Questions

I unfortunately work where there is a fountain pepsi machine in our breakroom. I too was drinking about 5-6 diet Dr. Pepper's in a day. I've actually given it up two weeks before surgery and haven't craved it at all. Funny though because I got conflicting info from my surgeons office. They say NO CARBONATED beverages ever, however one of the nurses who happened to have gastric bypass surgery said "there are no studies indicating that it has an effect on the bands, but the phosphates in soda bind to your calcium on a cellular level so the heart thinks it doesn't have calcium to pump and it pulls it out of your bones- thats why we have a pandemic of osteoparosis." REALLY? I was shocked that she would even indicate that it "might" be ok from a lapband standpoint to drink a soda! I'm staying off of it, because I'm a junkie when it comes to soda. I've given it up and do not want to even start!

    Self Fills

Wow...I'm surprised at all the negative comments....she's asking for advice not judgement. I happen to know a friend who does her own fills and has been doing so for the past few years. She also does a few other people in her circle of friends and has had no problems (knock on wood) now I've never done it and I personally feel more comfortable with my doctor doing it because he does it with fluro and last time he actually put too much in and had to remove it right away. He could only tell because of the fluro, I couldn't even tell. I'm just more comfortable with my doctor doing it, but if you have a good feel for your port area then more power to you! I would see if amazon sells the needles that you need so that you don't have to steal them next time... And for those who are even thinking of judging me for my comment ...go fly a kite! I'm not interested in what you have to say and your comments will not be entertained...
