    Getting Cold Feet?!

Many of us go through those same thoughts and feelings. Many of us also have a stage just after being banded where we think, "OMG, what have I done to myself?!" You are going through the "normal" mental process. It will be ok. Keep your eye on the prize! It is so worth it! This is something you are doing good for yourself.

    Tomorrow Is Almost Here..

Tomorrow morning I go in at 8:30am. I'm so excited I can barely relax. I've read so much on this forum and realized some people range from little discomfort to major pain post-op. I really hope I fall in the "little discomfort" category lol. I found out last week I definitely have to stay overnight due to sleep apnea I am beginning to think that is going to be a great thing..round the clock medication haha. It's weird, I'm not worried about any steps of the surgical procedure but I am about post op pain. Go figure. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers..

The process of getting restriction with just the band can be difficult. The benefit of the plication is that you get restriction right away, but you don't have to worry about being too tight, it's like you never hit the red zone. But as some of the people who just have plication can tell you, they sometimes feel that they loose that feeling of restriction after time and that is where the band comes in, when you go through the process of getting fills, you will start to feel restriction again but the danger is that you can still become too restricted. In addition to the restriction issues, plication also helps to prevent cheating the band, even if you eat slider foods or haven't started getting fills you only eat a limited amount. It could even be possible to get to goal without a single fill. In addition to the restriction benefits, early studies have shown that plication may help to prevent complications such as slippage and erosion which is a huge benefit on it's own. It's true that this is still an investigational procedure but not many people have an opportunity to get this done and I would encourage you to take the leap, I don't think that you will regret it. I had to go through all the pre ops of my band.... counselling, EGD, dietician, everything! Thankfully all but the EGD were quick and easy. However 3 months after my bypass I had another EGD and they nearly killed me. I had a toxic reaction to the numbing stuff. They gave me this blue dye and fixed it, but if they hadn't been on top of things I would have died. that said> I'm now a year post op. AND loving life with my bypass and size 12 butt I had my 1 yr check up, and got a lecture about my Vitamins. I told them honestly they're what is causing my nausea, and that's not acceptable (Not normal by the way). So they're testing a few things, and I will get B12 shots. I've been put on a special Iron supplement (less likely to cause nausea), and have to suck it up with calcium. But I'm down 83 pounds. And that's with less movement than I had with the band. I screwed up my knee running in June. I see an orthopedic surgeon Monday morning. Time will tell what's next for my knee then. But I have a referral for the plastic surgeon that works with my bariatric team for the 31st. They're looking at doing a panniculectomy removing that roll of skin in the bottom. That's the worst I have. I'd love to win the lotto and get the bat wings taken care of, and the extra on my thighs and calves but it isn't likely to happen. But I get yeast infections in my belly button from the binders I wear to keep it from bouncing around. The other thing that has changed for me, as a dumper I can't eat much of something sweet or carby. But when I do, I don't get hit as hard as I used to. That kindda sucks. But I still dump, My heart races. I get sweaty. I get nauseated. And later, sometimes a day or two later, I'll sometimes get diarrhea. Not always. Another thing that is kind of funny... my ring sizes have changed. I expected that some. But my shoes went from a 7.5 wide width to a 6.5 normal. WEIRD!!!! well time to get the boys ready for bed. Day 1 Of Band Life..

Hello everyone, I was told I did great in surgery no complications. I did stay the night..thank goodness for that the inclining bed was a life saver. I was afraid of how much soreness I would have post-op but I have to admit it was manageable, I did ask for pain meds several times tho. Walking was good seem to help a lot I walked the halls each time I was disconnected to use the restroom. Now I'm home on the couch with everything I need within an arms reach. Everyone is so supportive on this site. Thanks to you all.

    Throwing Up And Often

sounds like you need to drink warm liquids for a couple of days, you are probaly swollen from the vomiting. if you can keep water down, then it is not a slip. i can't eat in the mornings. i have a cup of hot coffee first thing in the morning to "loosen" up the band as i am super tight in the AM. then i have a protein shake mid morning. then i can eat food around lunch time. during that time of the month, i am super tight so i have liquids for 2 days and then i am fine. can you eat food in the afternoon/evenings?

You Say The Band Didn't Work

Im confused why some people are continuing to stay on this website when they SAY "the band didn't work". It looks like they are here to cause trouble and bash the band? If you SAY the BAND is the reason you didn't lose weight. Then move on. right? Not that I can say leave, because obviously I can't and wouldn't do that . But i've noticed the same person going post to post arguing with people. Honestly, how do we know the band is preventing you from losing weight? How do we know you didn't eat right ? Just saying. The band helps with over eating. It does not make you lose weight. They don't place the band and the weight just comes off. It's all about your diet. Sounds like some one needs something to blame it on. Im new WITH the BAND, but im not NEW when it comes TO the band. Ive done a lot of research on the Band.
