I had surgery on March 8, 2011. I have been working my a** off (literally!) I am so proud of myself - I will say it because I deserve it! I have a good restriction right now. I watch my calories but, honestly not too strict with it. I eat low carb, high Protein, don't do bread or Pasta at all. I don't deprive myself, if I want something I have it. A small portion of it. I started working out about 8 weeks after surgery. I work out 4-5 days a week, two of those days with a trainer. I love it. I went from a tight size 26/28 to a 16 (!!!!). I started this journey at 371lbs and now weigh 256lbs. I want to get under 200 and then I will decide on a goal weight. I wanted to share some pictures to show my progress. I love my band! Sorry if the pictures are huge - I was having trouble resizing!!! Before (02/2011) During (Thanksgiving 2011)

My Lap Band Weight Loss Story

I too am 58 and my bandiversary is 12/20/11. I have had the band for 3 years and still have gas issues. It is natural and I just have learned to make noises by shutting my desk drawer when I feel the gas escaping and I act totally ignorant when it slips out. I have heard that beano tablets prevent gas but I don't think it is that bad to have to start to use pills for it. It has however come in handy having this gas when inconsiderate smokers sit on the side of me and puff their brains out and I can hardly breathe with THEIR smoke in my face. I usually reciprocate with my god given talent from banding of the uncontrolled gas and sometimes it does the trick of moving someone fast. LOL Don't sweat the small things, I am so thrilled to be where I am that gas every day is a small price to pay. I guess it is all in how you look at it. Smile and just act normal and usually the people I work with wonder if that was my shoe rubbing on the floor or gas??

Trying To Find My Way Back

I can relate to your struggle. I am also 2 years out, lost 125, gained back 30. I decided Friday after Thanksgiving that I had to catch this before it went any further- I DO NOT WANT TO BE THAT FAT PERSON EVER AGAIN! I have been on liquids (protein shakes and yogurt) since Saturday and I feel so much better. My body didn't like all that sugar that I was dumping into it. I already feel healthier, more alert, and back on track! Also- my counselor specializes in eating disorders and hypnosis. Tuesday, for the first time, I was hypnotized. I have since listened to the recording 2-3 times a day, and the message is staying in my head. I have the ability to choose. I can choose healthy, low-fat, low-calorie foods. I can choose to stay positive. I can choose to take care of myself so that I can be the healthy, happy, attractive person that I want to be. It's never too late to get back on track. If we try to stay focused, and make the right choices, WE CAN DO IT! Good luck fellow bandsters!!! (phew! I hope I can stick with this!!!)

Trying To Find My Way Back

I think I would start with protein drinks again and going to a support group - because there will be others that have either been through, or are going through what you are. I know you're very busy now, but you need to make a little time in there for you. You cared enough about yourself to be banded in the first place, care about yourself now. I'm rooting for you. Please keep us all posted, but please go to a support group.

I hope you can, because that's one of my goals. I want to be able to ride all the rollercoasters at Six Flags again. I have a million little things on my "skinny list". :-)

First of all, shame on all of you for acting like it's his fault. There is not a thing wrong with eating a hot dog with out the bun or even a tiny piece of the bun and no where in his statement did he say if the bun was included. That doctor and the hospital both should have done an ultrasound, x-ray or floroscopy to check on the band. This guy is not a doctor. He told his doctor what was going on and having no restriction and the man STILL put fluid in without checking to see how much was already in there. That to me seems careless. My doctor always pulls out whats there before giving my anymore to make sure I have no leaks. I say yes. Go for it. Make them pay for your new band and the hospital bill you incurred.
