    Starvation Mode questions

    Starvation mode doesn't really exist. Sure you can starve, but that takes generally 72 hours of no Water and food for your body to kick into such a situation. But what many people who attempt to lose weight eating extremely low calories experience is a metabolic downgrade, which means that your body adapts tot he low calories you are feeding it and when you exceed that number, you eventually gain weight, even though it seems silly to gain weight eating 1200 calories, but consider this. A woman eats 700 calories a day and loses weight perfectly. However, she hits a plateau and wonders why. Well, instinct tells her to drop her calories even more, which may result in SOME weight-loss but at such low calories you're hardly able to eat enough food to fuel yourself, so then you generally opt to eat more, but adding to your calories causes weight gain because your metabolism has downgraded. And the only way to really fix such a situation is to lose the insane calorie deficits and eat higher calories. I went through this personally, still am. When I was first starting out I was eating 600-800 calories a day for almost a good 5-6 months, but it worked, but it also ruined my metabolism. So yes I've packed on 10lbs, but my metabolism is re-regulating itself, so nowadays I CAN eat 1800 and lose. Just something to consider.

    Calling all A11s!!

    I know where you are coming from. When there is no one around to keep us accountable, the pressure falls on ourselves to make the right choices. Maybe it would help you to rectify the behavior by thinking about all that you went through with the surgery and the fight to lose the weight. As the veterans say, it is a mental process as well because the lap band alone isn't magic. I chose the lap band to help me control my hunger and portion sizes but ultimately, what you put in your mouth is still completely up to you. You can do this!!

    Yes, when you put it like that, I guess my 6 isn't so bad. My worry now is that if I'm not losing on the liquid diet , what will happen when I start to eat?

    You have to remember that this is not a race and that everyone loses weight differently. At first when I was banded, I was slow as a turtle. I compared myself to others who were banded at the same time and I about drove myself crazy. Here I am, 126 lbs lighter and I can completely understand how you were feeling. Your body is healing and is recovering from a major shock to your system. With your pre-op diet, I'm sure your body has gotten used to a reduced food intake and it has slowed down a bit. You will see a slow loss at first possibly, but remember you will see a loss if you follow the rules. Lap Bands only help us lose...the weight just does not instantly fall off. It took me a solid 8 months for that "click" to happen and for my body to really and honestly move into high gear with my steady weight loss. Don't get discouraged. Just know you have made the best decision for yourself and your health! Good luck to you! Stephanie

    11 Days Post Op and not losing....HELP!!

    11 days post op is not about losing weight. It's about healing. Just relax and follow the process. The weight will come off when it's time!

    Calling all A11s!!

    Well here is a post from Aug 11, 2011 # 3 in a row. Cara....I also get a fill on the 16th....I am excited and scared. I have had no problem eating anything but a bagel thin very toasted....doesn't work for me...will not try it again....I don't even want to look at on. I was a sweet iced tea oholic....God took this taste from me. I sipped it for three days after surgery...I came home from church the Sunday after surgery and yuck it tasted awful. I haven't drank out of a glass since that day. I have my water and I am sticking to it. I had a slight PROBLEM yesterday. I usually eat oatmeal on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sundays. I have more time on these days. The other days I make a protein shake and drink in the run...I usually drop my daughter off and then off to the walking trail. I have never had any problems with the shake. Well yesterday was a busy day.... mixed a shake and out the door I went. I sipped thru Sunday School and when church started....my lower tummy started to expand and I started having craps. I excused myself...I went to the potty and nothing (sorry for the TMI) and then I walked around in the connected nursery....thought the pain was gone. Back into church. I sat down and in just a few minutes...the pain came back,,,,,BAD. I got woozy and thought I was about to pass out. I willed myself thru in and back up I went. I had decided I wasn't coming out til the pain was gone. I walked around and around in the nursery and it finally eased. Now after the story...has anyone else had a problem with protein shakes doing anything like this. I have never had a real problem with milk. Someone told me the whey powder bulks up..... With all this said my first month has been great. i start water aerobics today and I am going to up my walk to more than a mile...I will post tonight or in the morning how things went. I am so excited about my life change. God is Good...ALL THE TIME!
