I felt just like you did for up to 7 months after being banded because I was making myself "diet" in order just to lose a little weight. I didn't get a good fill until my 7 month of being banded that took away my hunger sensation for up to 4 hours after eating. It will happen sooner or later so just stick with it! Some people only need a few fills or none at all to get to that point. I am a turtle at losing weight compared to some people. I average 1 pound a week since being banded! I am just as proud as someone that averages 3 pounds a week! Good for them and good for me! Keep your head up!

    Emotions pre band

I wasnt expecting this rush of emotions after i got my ins approval. Before, when i was trying to get approved i was just so focused on that. But now, i guess im like oh crap! This is happening. I have never doubted this til now and ive been researching this since last nov with my first with dr in late feb. Can i do this? Have i exhausted all my other options? What if i regret this? What if something happens to me? I was having these feelings, then i had my nut appt and he said that my soda aka liquid calories and emotional eating will not be controlled by the band. I guess i started doubting myself more after that appt. I am prepared to give up sodas. Forever. I am addicted to them and know i can no longer have them. But the emotions, the head hunger, am i prepared for that? I dont expect the band to do the work for me. This isnt magic. I get that. I feel like i understand everything, have researched, etc. But yet, still have doubts.

The band has been the absolute best thing that has happened to me (besides the birth of my daughter). I no longer have to worry about my weight escalating out of control because I have taken control of the situation I find myself always analyzing food before I eat. I am by no means a saint at all, but much, much, MUCH better than I was prior to surgery. I am smiling more. I love to look at clothes now. Even though I'm only down 39, (which is a huge accomplishment for me)..I am already 95% more active than I was a few months ago. I hiked three miles the other day and swam in our pool. No regrets at all!

Same here, not getting it sooner. Yes, you will grieve food a little after surgery. Yes, you may have times when you get something stuck. Yes, you will have to still watch what you eat (ice cream, candy bars, etc.), yes, I have had to exercise but I can say that 5 months down the road, 53 lbs lighter, past the grieving period, past the port healing, past the scars on my belly, most days I forget I even have a band. I love it and just wish I had done this years ago. Good luck sunshine. The only frustrating part was that I didn't loose 10 lbs a day like I wish I could have.......giggle.

    Frustrated with Band Results

No problem: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19943985 Study shows there was no difference in weight loss between subjects with high/low meal frequencies. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9155494 Evidence supports that meal frequency has nothing to do with subjects' energy. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11319656 No difference in energy in the subjects compared to 2 meals a day to 6 meals a day. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1905998 Eur J Clin Nutr. 1991 Mar;45(3):161-9.Links Influence of the feeding frequency on nutrient utilization in man: consequences for energy metabolism. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11319656 Int J Obes Relat Metab Disord. 2001 Apr;25(4):519-28.Links Compared with nibbling, neither gorging nor a morning fast affect short-term energy balance in obese patients in a chamber calorimeter. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18053311 Br J Nutr. 2008 Jun;99(6):1316-21. Again, I am not against breakfast but people should know that the timing of breakfast (when you break your eating fast from sleeping) does not matter.

How is Everybody Doing? What's New?

Soph, You are doing just fine! Don't be so hard on yourself! You might not be losing right now, but I'll bet you aren't gaining either! It sounds like you are doing a lot in the exercise dept! That is great! For me, when I do too much in the gym it slows my weight loss. My Dr suggested I try working out a bit less- He suggested I go 3 times a week or lessen the amount of time I go for if I go 5 times a week. I have really seen some results with cutting back slightly. Maybe talk to your Dr. and see if maybe you are slightly overdoing the exercise? Another idea is to change up your exercise a bit. If you've been walking on the treadmill at 3mph try adding some incline. I usually do an incline of 8 or 9 for a few mins and then go down to a 3 and then switch back and forth a few times. Have you tried the elliptical? I can burn 550 cals in 40 mins on the elliptical. At first I hated it, but the weight loss results are fabulous!! Try it ... I started at 15 mins and worked my way up to 40 mins. I do take a break for a minute if my feet start to tingle..for some reason that happens to me on the elliptical. As far as food goes for me, I eat what I want. I'm maybe not the best person to talk to in that dept. I eat what I want, but do have some restriction. (As I should! I have 8ccs in a 10cc band..) The band has pretty much cut out my being able to eat French Fries. They are my biggest vice. I probably had french fries 4 times a week preband. Now I'm lucky if I can get even 1 down without getting stuck. I also have trouble with Pasta and bread. So, My band is doing it's job there for me. Anyway, I eat pretty much whatever I want, and I lose pretty slowly- usually no more than 2lbs a week, except that I lose in a weird pattern and will lose 5 lbs in a week and then I'll go a couple weeks without losing and then I'll lose a few lbs again. It's really discouraging for me too, because every time I get to that point where I'm not losing for a couple of weeks I think "Well, this is it. It's over." But, in reality it just takes my body a while to readjust to the loss. In the food Dept. I eat lots of chicken. Mostly grilled. Fried every once in a while. Chicken wings are particularly good for me because they take a long time to eat...and I take the time to chew them better than if I'm eating a chicken breast. I eat steak sometimes and things like spaghetti -- I have to be careful with my pasta though! Mostly I find myself eating Salads and things like coleslaw or corn for my side dishes at restaurants. When I'm at home I eat lots of Chicken or Tuna salad & crackers. Sometimes I'll have hummus or pimento cheese, but not too often. I think you probably might want to have some more ccs put in when you have a fill. Will your Dr. do fills under Fluro? That really helped me get to a good spot quickly! If your Dr. wont, I suggest finding one who will! Under fluro they can accurately fill your band without the guesswork! Good luck!! Try not to beat yourself up! This is a long process. My Dr. told me not to worry about losing quickly. It will come off....just be patient!

I think everyone goes thru this feeling. I felt like I was going to be the only person to spend 10000 and not lose any weight. But I think that motivates me alot too, I spent 10000 and I am gonna lose weight. no matter what. I have 4 more lbs and I am 1/2 way to my goal. I dont think thats to bad for 13 weeks! you will do great!

    the nerve of some nurses

She's actually out of line and potentially going against hospital policy to go off on you like that. You really should consider filing a formal complaint about it. It's that kind of bullying that causes people to second guess themselves and make poor decisions.
