    Learn how to spell

So I'm sure we have all misspelled things here and there and that is not a big deal. But I'm getting a little irritated trying to read through some of these posts that people can't use the correct spelling or even near proper grammar! There is spell-check on the computer for you, use it if you're that bad at it! I have stopped responding to some posts that have decent questions because I want to tell them to go back to school and get it right! I don't take people very seriously when they can't type a sentence. To clarify more not talking about using little words like lol, lmao, btw etc. I'm talking about spelling & grammatical errors. These are not some of the larger, harder to spell words such as anesthesia either, these are simple every day words! Is anyone else bothered by this?? I hope I'm not the only one! (Once again, typos are common…but a few things I've noticed on here tonight I'll list…I even used it in a small sentence! Right spelled Wright….(…eating the right way…) Right spelled Rite…(…eating the right way…) Weigh spelled Way…(… I weigh myself…) Weight spelled Wait…(…my weight this morning was…) Losing spelled Loseing…(…I've been losing lots of weight…) You're spelled Your…(…you're over thinking this…) Waste spelled Waist…(…why waste your time…) Ok I'm just going to stop there, I'm sure you get the point.

    Size 14's!!

Went to my favorite store (CATO) last week and bought some size 14 jean capris! Tried them on and they fit well...not to tight. After wearing them they loosened up alot! I cant believe it...SIZE 14!!! I also bought a blouse....large! It feels wonderful!! I have an appointment on Friday for another fill. I'm thinking I may not need one. I'm worried about being overfilled. Nothing gets stuck and I stay satisfied after eating for about 4 hours. Right now I have 5.75cc in my band. The hunger pains died down after the last fill. It didnt seem that way at first but about 2 weeks later I started feeling like my band had gotten tighter. I got on the scale this morning and it read 237!! 54lbs lost!! I'm still keeping up with my 4 workouts a week....I feel guilty if I don't go to the gym...I'm loving the way my body is changing for the better!

    July 2011 Bandsters!

I'm one wek post op and I take several meds some of which are quite large. The only one I break in half is Metformin ( horse pill)! The others I just take one at a time with several drinks of water. I have no restriction right now so the PA said this would be fine. The problem will probably get worse once we have restriction. For now I wouldn't worry

    July 2011 Bandsters!

I have four medications that aren't related to the surgery that I take daily. Yes, I can take some of them. My birth control pill is small enough and another one I can snap in half and wait 30 minutes in between. The other option is what I have to use for my nighttime sleepy meds, a pill crusher. It is nasty, let me tell you. I've sprinkled some crystal light on it, used a tiny bit of applesauce, etc...but it is gross, no sugar coating that. Some meds may come in liquid form, and I'd go for that if you can. My pill crusher was like $5 at Walmart. Once the weight starts coming off, I'm hoping not to be on any of these meds anymore (except Synthroid, which will be for life). Hope I helped!!

    What Works For You?

I was banded almost 2 years ago and I've lost a total of 80lbs SO FAR. That also included a 5-month period with zero restriction (I gained 20lbs back), followed by another surgery to correct the leaky tubing that caused the zero restriction. There have been times where I've been stressed, I would eat crap, and not lose anything. Or very little. It really wasn't until April of this year that I kind of said, "What the hell?" to myself and started really losing the weight a little faster. Prior to that, I had lost 50lbs (also taking into effect the 20lbs I gained, which means I had really lost 70lbs), So since April I've lost 30lbs. What works for me? Calorie counting. I eat 1,200 calories a day and I'd say most of what I eat is healthy. About 3 weeks ago I cut out chocolate/desserts/sweets and alcohol. Not to say I'll never eat/drink those things again, but I'm trying to do it as little as possible. I have a Protein shake for breakfast every morning, then a snack, then lunch, then a snack, then dinner. Snacks being carrots, nuts, etc.... I have to say that I find it to be incredibly easy for me at this point. It wasn't easy when I first got the band. I still wanted to eat bad foods and I still felt hungry. But right now, I am so completely focused on eating well. And while I have no temptations at home (I only have healthy foods in the house), the job where I spend 9 hours a day (5 days a week) is awful! There is a "candy drawer" 2 feet from my desk with bags and bags of candy. People will bring in donuts, pies, cakes, brownies, etc.... And I haven't touched them! I never thought I could get to a point where it became easy for me to resist food. It takes a while, but I think you eventually get to a point where you can separate food from being an emotional crutch. Or at least I did. When you can't binge or eat your feelings away, knowing it is painful to get stuck, you learn to stop doing that. I love food, I always will, but it doesn't control me anymore. My life doesn't revolve around it. I like to eat, but I don't think about food all day. I've been feeling awesome. I can see and feel the differences in my body, at last. When you're heavy, even when losing a lot of weight, you still don't really notice it that much. You may buy smaller sizes, but you still feel fat. I've been wearing the clothes that I wore 30lbs ago, which were already loose at the time. Last weekend I bought some more form-fitting tops. I'd say at least 30 people have commented or freaked out about how different I look and how thinner I am. Even my own family hadn't really seen me in form fitting clothes for a while. That's a great feeling. I still feel like I'm fat, though. I know I still have more to lose. I'm now "overweight" instead of "obese" (that occurred about 8lbs ago). People tell me that I look smaller than I actually am. Someone today asked what size I wore. I said I'm currently in a size 15 jeans (juniors), but I do actually fit into a size 13 (which is a size 12 in ladies). She said I look smaller than that. I mean, wow! I'm 28. I haven't been a size 13 since I was.... 17?

It does work for many people. I know a few. The problem as I see it is that if there are complications people tend to blame the patient or their eating issues. The honest truth is for some people it just is NOT a good fit no matter if they follow the rules or not. It has been hard to deal with the attitude that if you don't lose or your having complications that the person not the band is to blame. But I do see alot of that attitude on this site and with the WLS community. For me is is just alot of medical complications that I am trying to navigate around to figure out how I can work WITH my band. I have a good friend that had to have her band out becuase she was allergic to the silicon. And I sometimes wonder if my body just wants it out and it out and is trying to tell me that. If I ever get it out I would just revise to the sleeve. I am not eligible for the RNY per my doctor. The malabsorption would be a problem for me. At the time I was banded the sleeve was not an option just band or RNY. I will say that I got banded with about 8 people and that two lost 100 pounds. Those two have since gained about 25-30 back two years out. Not bad if you ask me I would be happy. Not perfect but better than me. Two gained all their weight back and a bit more. (our doctor won't give you fills in the beginning unless you lose alot of weight first and in between fills). They never really lost and thus could not get fills in the band and never got back on track. Since they were not losing they were embarrased to see the doctor an get yelled at. After getting yelled at a couple times they didn't go back. Two people lost 80 pounds. One got pregnant and gained it all day and than some. She lost her medical insurance and so no more fills now. The other got a divorce and asked for her fill to be totally removed as stress was making her PB all the time and she was losing to fast. She gained about half the weight back. The rest of us lost about 25-30 pounds and are at a standstill. One person I know lost 76 of the 150 she wanted to lose but is at a standstill for the last three years. The success stories are wonderful to hear but not the norm in my group. But here is the thing. For me even losing 25 makes me feel so much better. And when the fill is gone I gain period. So I know I use the band as a tool because I struggle MORE without it. I know it work at least for maintenance now. And it has helped my health so I would do it again. I am just afraid of fills because my body overreacts to fills. I need to lose another 75 pounds to make my goal. I have NOT given up. I figure my body tries to make a statement with every fill that it wants the darn thing OUT!! . I am just trying to figure out how to use my band in a way my body won't fight. But I won't be surprized if I have to get it taken out at some point. RNY you just have to be careful. I have had a couple friends almost die of malnutrition issues with the RNY issues. But others did fine. You just have to be on top of your health and know when to get to a doctor if something is wrong. Waiting or thinking it would work out and not going to ER has caused a few people some issues. So the labs are a good thing. For me more than 50% of the time I have been banded I have had no fill at all. I am sure that is a large part of my not losing as fast. WIth no fill you are basically on your own like pre band and back to willpower. I could even tell I had a band. It is a process.........................
