Hey All, As you may have noticed, we've launched a Lap-Band Surgeon and Patient Search application for LapBandTalk! The application is currently in Beta - so there may be minor issues or bugs. If you find any, or if you simply have a suggestion that you'd like to see make it into the system, please let us know right here! Thanks, and we are looking forward to your feedback! - Ken S.

    why hide lapband?

I'm very open with everyone that I'm having surgery, and have been met with great support. Of course, those who know me know the strugle i've had to lose weight. I just don't understand why people feel the need to hide that they've had surgery? I'd love for someone to come at me and say it's "the easy way" or "cheating". they'd get a real piece of my mind! even those who i don't know well are receptive and not judgement about my surgery. Are there really that many people who give such hateful feedback? Just curious... Nikki

That is "slime". If your coffee is warm or hot, you are only making the swelling worse.

    NSV

Hello everyone, I had my first victory today and it's only been three weeks post surgery. It's a small one but it's my first. I wore a shirt for work today which used to be tight and I would only wear with a jacket, now it looks nice and fits properly! It's the smallest thing but hopefully the beginning of lots of little achievements. I weighed 340 lb before surgery so have a long way to go but the journey seems to have started.

    Breaking up with Bread

I have some good news about breaking up with bread. For me, the fewer carbs I eat, the less I WANT carbs. Really! I'm not just saying it. It's hard the first few days, but after a week of reducing your carbs you really will feel better- less in a fog, less likely to just jam something in your mouth because your body is screaming for more and more carbs. I also know now that if I have a day where I eat more carbs again, it immediately starts the cravings snowballing and I also feel gross by the end of the day. Eating more carbs makes me feel yucky and grumpy, and that feeling makes me want to eat carbs, and on and on. So it's nice to be able to say "oh wait, this is not THE WORST DAY EVER, my whole problem is I ate xyz this morning."

    Aggravating...

You're a better person than me.... there would have been some F bombs and telling him to do somethings that are anatomically is impossible. I can't handle disrespect...

    I am so bad!!

My surgeon had said that she would not do the surgery if I gained more than five pounds between the orientation meeting and my surgery date. Be sure yours doesnt have the same guideline!

    hair falling out

It could be falling out for many different reasons. You should see your doctor and get blood work done to check your thyroids, hormones and such. Also, should this not be a temporary issue (and most likely it is), and your blood work came back fine, you can get your scalp biopsied and find out if its hereditary, or some other issues to which I forget at the moment. A dermatologist would probably be the best kind of doctor to help you find the root cause of your hair loss.

    Protein Shakes

I get my shakes from Bariatric Advantage in Irvine, CA. In the store they offer samples so you can taste before you buy. They have an online store, too and since I'm in So. Cal if I don't want to drive to Irvine I order online and I get my box next day without paying extra. If you call in or chat online you can ask for samples. They gave me some samples after I made the mistake of ordering the strawberry flavor in the huge bag without tasting it first. Its too artificially sweet. My favorite is the chocolate flavor. For an 8 oz. serving they have 27g of Protein per serving, 8 g of carbs and 160 cal, plus lots of Vitamins and minerals added. I have 2-3 shakes daily. They don't taste chalky at all like some do. Usually, I shake them up with Water in a Blender Bottle that I bought at 24 hour fitness. I like them best this way because in a blender they get too think for me and I end up with too much air in my tum tum. What I like best about this shake is that on a cold day I can make it with warm water and it tastes like hot chocolate. On a hot day I dump it in the magic bullet with some water and ice cubes for a "milkshake." I can drink the chocolate shakes as a snack between meals, as a meal or all day if I cant get acceptable food for me to eat. Bariatric Advantage was recommended by my dietician and it is also where I get my vitamins and Calcium chews. I don't work for them or get discounts to tell you about how great their products are. I'm a school teacher thats how I make my "millions."
