Return to Normal Activities
To allow surgery wounds to heal, only light activity is permitted after surgery. Patients should avoid lifting heavy objects, such as grocery bags, full laundry baskets and children. Continuing to move as much as possible, however, can speed recovery. Walking around the house and folding laundry are examples of very light activities that can help.
Many patients can get back to work within two weeks of surgery, although this is delayed if there are complications or if the job demands more physical activity. Within weeks, a full range of normal activities should be safe.
