I couldn't agree more...no wonder you are weak, poor thing! I had to do strict clear liquids x3 days and thought I would lose it! Lightheadedness got better after started protein shakes and strained creamed soups(with whey protein added) on day 4. My doc's nutritionist starts mushies on day 15. And I thought this seemed rather extreme....I'm told 60 gms protein/day is the goal to promote healing and prevent muscle wasting and hair loss. Hang in there, energy should be better now that you are using shakes.

I have sympathy, but maybe this is the payback for no pre op diet? They just gotta mess with you somehow, right? It ain't right I say.

I"m looking at my banding on a Monday, one night in hosp and then going back to work the next Monday. I hope I get some semblance of mushies by then.

Have a good rest of the week/weekend. Kathi

450 calories a day?! Might be the right amount if you're laying in bed in a coma! Thanks for sharing your story - good to speak up and ask questions at the drs office, rather than suffer. Keep your head up :)) -mscarly (Jun-3 band date)

I have been scouring all the sites and googling everything I can to find the WHY of the post op diet. I understand everything except the sugar free stuff. Why sugar free jello instead of regular jello? I'm not a big proponent of LOW-CARB diets, and think that sweeteners are prob'ly worse for us all in the long run than sugar....I understand we don't want all our calories from sugar and should limit sugar...but 400 calories a day would be HELL!!! I'm thinking in the back of my mind that I will come out of the other side (POST-OP diet) with a keen awareness of my own body healing, but also a balance of eating healthily. I can completely understand clear liquid diets until your tummy heals---but if you TOLERATE more then I'm not able to find a medical reason NOT to. I've looked at post-op for stomach cancer patients..etc.

You and I are on the low BMI side, and I'm not sure about you, but for ME...I want to lose the weight gradually and healthily--not feeling emaciated and anorexic.

MY BAND DATE IS JUNE 17TH!!! WOOOO-HOO!!!

Hey There B_G, DB here! I've been playing catch up on your blogs and I have to tell you, I went thru the same thing! No energy, weak, and just plain tired!! And as I went to the mushies, it got better ( I went in them after 2 wks. of liquids ) then I went on reg. foods, my energy level came up and now at 4 wks post-op, I feel normal again. But I'm like you, I don't think your getting enough protein, even when I was on liquids, I drank about 2 protein drinks a day. It WILL get better!!
