I have absolutely no appetite what so ever, I don’t even want to drink water. Any ideas why or what to do? Is anyone else experiencing this too?

I was banded on Jan 12th. prehaps I'm just not able to identify what I'm feeling right now.

I remember that feeling. It might just be a reaction to the stress your body goes through following surgery. I wouldn't worry about it too much; as my doctor told me, "Not one of my patients ever died from malnutrition!" Funny guy.

You do need to stay hydrated, though. So take little sips of water or Crystal Light (whatever you can get down that's sugar-free). If you're worried about getting some nutrition, there are clear liquid protein drinks you can buy at places like GNC.

In the meantime, take advantage of this period to get some weight off. Your appetite will be back soon - and with a vengence!

Call your doctor, too.

Good luck!

Thank you Lilly,

I think you are right when my appetite comes back hide your lunch LOL!

My husband said that I am subconsciously protesting because I don't want to be on the liquid diet part... Honestly there maybe a little truth to that. After 26 years he just may know me a little bit.

Thanks again,

Ann

Hey there!

I was banded Jan. 9th. I felt the same way for the first few days. I think it is actually a blessing. Sometimes people r hungry when they come out of surgery. Mine is coming back. I am REALLY REALLY sick of the liquid diet part. Can't wait til it gets better! Goood luck and God Bless!

Hi, I was banded on 9/9/08. I've lost 40 lbs. so far. I lost the first 25 in the first 6 weeks. The first week after surgery, I, too, had no appetite, but I drank none the less because we need to. Then I had pureed foods for a few weeks and then mushy foods for a few weeks. (at first, just 1 tbsp. at a time, then it increased to 1/2 cup. then to 1 cup) Your appetite will come back as you begin eating again. Then you'll wish it didn't. Thus, why we need fills. When you do begin eating, my advice to you would be to never stuff yourself. Eat only until you are content or have satisfied the hunger pain. (and do it s.l.o.w.l.y.) I can't stress that enough. When I eat too fast, it feels like you have your food stuck in your throat at the chest area, and it takes a while for it to go down, or you might throw it up. It takes me a half hour to finish 1 sandwich. I can eat anything I want now. even the things they tell you you'll never be able to eat again like brocolli, or popcorn. (just not as much)I can't have much bread or rice or pasta or potatoes, for these items give me that stuck in the throat feeling after just 2 or 3 bites. The lap band experience for me and most others is a trial and error experience. We learn what we can and can't do as we go along. I believe it is an experience that is different for each person in some ways and alike for everyone in other ways. Nice to meet you all, and God bless. Patty

Thank you guys,

I am sipping liquids to prevent dehydration. I don't feel sick I just don't want anything to eat. It's good to that this is a normal experience for some of us.

I'm really learning a lot about my eating habits that I would have never identified before the surgery. Whatever pops into my head I go to the kitchen a get or I get into my car and go get it...Zero discipline and it has to change now.

Ann

Trying to figure things out....

Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only one that did that! If I happen to be craving a sub, I just hop in the car and head over to Eegees. Then I feel soooo incredibly guilty afterwards. There was perfectly good food in the fridge, afterall! Why did I do that? :blushing:

I am SO glad to hear that you are doing well!! Take good care!

I have alot of head hunger. I'm not hungry at all, but I see the good food in the house and would like to indulge like before, only I know I can't anymore. So I try to do other things.

I had heard about this happening to some and had hoped I would come out the same way, but didn't. I had a tuff time on liquids last week. Told my Dr. he cared less. But did allow me to skip to soft foods then as of this Thur I go to solids. With no support at home they eat everything that I was eating around me. My mind has me wanting to eat things I usually would not eat. so enjoy it while it last and lose weight too. I am able to take in more for that I thought I would be after banding, I am worried about that.
