This was a hard decision for me to make . . . I've never been small but then again, I've never been this big before either. I have always embraced my bigness - it was just who I was but my world is getting smaller and smaller. I can't kneel or get down on the floor to play with my grandson. I can't walk for more than a few feet. I am so limited AND I almost can't buy clothes in a large sized store anymore. If I could fix this by dieting - I would have done it by now. I'm only 46, I hope to live for at LEAST 30 more years . . .so this is the decision I have made and this is the start of my journey.

In November 2008 I made the decision to ask my doctor about weightloss surgery. several years ago he told me no and then he proceeded to explain why. I accepted his decision at the time - but decided to ask again. He said yes and submitted for a referral from the insurance co without many more questions.

I started the nutrition classes in dec. I have one more class to go and will have my psych eval next week. Blue shield denied the first request for surgery - but my doctors office believes that they will approve after I complete the education and the psych eval. They will resubmit after I complete both.

Did BC make you do six-months of dieting? They let me do WW on-line. I submitted copies of my records.

I'm in Arlington, VA and have BC as well. I finally got approved and am scheduled for surgery next Thursday.

I don't think that they require me to do six months of dieting . . . at least I've not heard that as of yet!

good luck i just got banned jan.14 2009 i had blue cross they wouldn't pay so my husband said the only way that he would let me borrow the money was to cut up all my credit cards and i did. i don't ever want to be heavy again. I weigh 258 and now i down to 252 little by little it is coming off and staying off.
