Band Erosions

After reading so many postings about the dreaded band erosion, I decided to dig a little deeper into this problem many us have or possible may, hopefully "may not" have to deal with in the distant future.

From the medical journals I've read so far, 35% of band patients experience some type of erosion to some degree and about 2% of those have their bands removed.

Some doctors will not reband within six months of removal and depending on the severity of the erosion rebanding may not be an option however, gastric bypass is an option and some doctors will perform the procedure at the time the eroded band is removed.

With this said I say, please research for yourselves what causes erosion and eliminate those behaviors to the best of your ability and live life to the fullest.

WOW. I never knew this. I am really concerned about this now. Do you know what causes band erosion? I know now that I need to do more research and probably should have done it BEFORE I had the band.

Aperfectwom, what a great post. Thanks especially for the statistics. I appreciate that you didn't list the reasons, but urged people to do their own research and to try to eliminate those behaviors that could potentially cause erosion.

Sepsis according to WebMD Sepsis (Blood Infection)

Your prognosis depends on your age and previous health.

  • If you are an elderly person with many illnesses or if your immune system is not working well because of illness or certain medications and sepsis is advanced, the death rate may be as high as 80%.
  • On the other hand, if you are a healthy person with no prior illness, the death rate may be low, at 5%.
  • The overall death rate from sepsis is around 40%. It is important to remember that your prognosis also depends on delay to diagnosis and treatment. The earlier the treatment is started, the better the outcome will be.
