my patience is definitely being tested here. The nurse predicted that I would be scheduled end of july early august for the band.. I still dont know if my psych eval has been faxed over. How annoying is that? The lady who controls the predetermination packets will not be in until later.

I have good news though -- metformin (glucophage) has melted five pounds off of me in three days. Its not water either. Discounting water weight, it would have been eight pounds.

That's Great -- I too am diabetic -- and taking the medication that works best for your body is a great way to lose weight -- I am allergic or have horrible side effects from Metformin and others in that group of drugs - I get extremely sore muscles and bruising for no reason --

now I take Avandia (24 hour med) and Prandin (one pill before meals - as needed-up to 4 times a day) -- now that I have lost a few lbs (10) and exercise a little bit I only need 1 Prandin a day (along with the Avandia)- a miracle in itself --

I was on Amaryl and it worked so well that I was bottoming out (after having extremely high sugar) go figure -- so Prandin is nice- I eat when I want to - not when I have to - Amaryl (up at 8mg - the max) was making my sugar so low I had to eat every 2.5 hrs - definitely not the way to lose weight

So congrats! I'm so happy you have found a medication that works well with your body -- my fiancee takes Metformin - and unfortunately as most of these meds do stop working well after a year or two - he now also takes Avandia -- and it works well together and he too is able to lose weight once again

Sorry for the long post -- just happy to hear about someone else's success with diabetes!!!
