Tortoise and the Hare

I went in yesterday for fill and I was thinking about my weightloss journey on the way home and how it really fits in with the story of the tortoise and the hare. When I got on the scale at the center it showed that I am down 14lbs from surgery (9-2-08) and that is good but my mind is the hare.. wanting to go faster with the weightloss even finding myself saying.. "My friend had it and is down 25lbs now" Then at that moment I realized that my weightloss is the tortoise doing what it is suppose to do going slow and steady losing the 1-2lbs aweek taking the road it needs to reach the finish line... It just takes time. It is hard at times when you have the hare talking to you wanting to lose faster wanting to get into that next size of pants wanting to see that 25lbs gone! I think this is a struggle every person has trying to lose weight even if they don't have the band. So the next time I get on the scale and the numbers aren't as fast as the hare thinks they should be.... I'll just remind myself I have the tortoise that will carry me to the finish line.

I am so glad I read your post. I was just fussing with my friends today about how slow my weight loss was. They all told me that I needed to calm down because slow is good and it will give my body time to adjust to the weight loss. This site is go great because it shows other people go through the same things you do.

I am also a slow loser. I am out over 2 years. Still not quite there. No hanging skin is definately the pay-off. So slow has its benefits also. Good Luck.

I have only been banded less than 2 weeks and have lost 5 kgs (11lb) which is great but the scales is stuck now. What I did is to write a loss of 4kgs into my diary for every 4 weeks (which is what the loss should be) and I will write beside that what the actual weight loss is. What this has done has helped me see the end of the goal - which will be in 11 months. Then, when I am discouraged, I look at my diary and say to myself - I'll be this weight by Christmas, this weight by my birthday, etc. Now I know it won't really happen exactly like that but it gives me something to hang onto and to visualise.

Cheers.

I'm just getting started. BMI 44, 5'4" @ 260lbs. First dietian and psych visit in November. Is the dietian looking for me to lose weight over 6 mo period? If so, will this lessen my chances for getting banded?
