I can't explain what it's like to go through this with no support. My 12 soon-to-b 13 year old is worried i'll get skinnier than her..(odd), she (i've mentioned before) is upset i'm doing it a day after her bday (worked around work schedule). The b/f is against surgeries period doesn't think i've tried everything..now i'm second guessing..i know this is what i want. I know my b/f was attracted to me the way i am. Do i risk losing him when i get skinny? Well then he never truly loved me. This will be the real test. I don't have anyone else...it's hard when you dont have support. What do you do?

I haven't had surgery yet but I'll be in the same situation as you when I do. I plan to find a support group at the hospital where I have the surgery done and come online for support.

Hi y'all. I am a family nurse practitioner. I have been overweight for 12 years now, and have been diagnosed with dm for at least 5 years. My BMI is 35, but i have several comorbidities assoc. with the obesity. i thought about gastric by pass, but chickened out when several of my patients had it done and did not have a good outcome, (including death). my insurance company ( new) is making me jump through hoops. i am attending a "healthy living" program that lasts 6 months. i drive 80 miles round trip 3 x per week to exercise, and do strength training in order to meet the criteria. My time is up in january. There is a gym nearby, about 5 miles down the road, but they won't accept that one, nope, I have to go theirs. I should have an appointment with the surgeon with in 1 month, and have attended the seminar. He has not started banding yet, but has had excellent results with bypass. He should start banding in the next month. I don't have alot of support, no one to exercise with, and am getting frustrated. I have worked so hard to lose weight, and actually managed to lose 86 lbs previously, only to gain it all back with pregnancy. Just venting and hoping for some encouragement. Thanx

I know how you feel. My husband is supportive, but he married me heavy and he likes F.A.T. (fabulous and thick) women. I just wonder how is going to react when the weight starts coming off??!!

I am doing this for health reasons, looking better is a secondary goal. I don't want to develop diabetes, hypertension and all the other stuff that goes along with long-standing obesity!
