After the first month I was getting fills or adjustments every two weeks. It took 5 fills to get the restriction I felt comfortable with. I don't know why your doctor is being so conservative. If you are not happy with him I would suggest looking at other doctors and their programs and see what there processes are. As for your husband I would still encorage him to persue the Lapband but with another doctor. My dr has an wonderful before and after program the teach what you need to know before hand and they have classes and monthly support groups for after. They were very clear about the processes what you can expect and that everyone is different and will lose differently. Not that that makes it any easier when you are slowly losing. So short advice long. Speak with your doc and if he still seems like he isn't listening the try to find someone else. Once you get the restriction you need I think you will fill much differently. Remember it can take a while to get to where you need to be but you will get there.

It is a process that requires patience. Your Doctor should have counseled you on how long it would take to find "YOUR" level of restriction. Sometimes it takes several months, this is not uncommon. ALso bandsters do not lose the majority of their weight in the first 6 mos. like gastric bypass people. We lose mostly after we have acheived a sufficient level of restriction and THEN we start losing consistently.

You also didn't mention how much exercise you are doing if any?

I had my band in 2-06 and lost about a 5 lbs. a month up to 65 pounds. I had only one fill but everyone is different. It is a slow process but it is healthier than bypass so try and be patient. I did walk every day and that helped. Good Luck! Hang in there!

Hello everyone, I am new to this site so let me introduce myself. My name is Ashleigh, I got my surgery on 4/2/08. I have neen doing well so far. I am kind of stuck in a rut this past 5 weeks or so going back and forth 7 pounds or so, and lost nothing. My question is what is everyones diet like? Do you truely eat 1/4 cup (2 oz) of food for a meal? I can eat about twice that, two times a day. Is it that I am just not filled enough or have I streched my pouch? or have a slipped band! How do you know, are there any ways to tell other than a x ray? I am always paranoid about the potential problems. I worry if the band is too tight I will get sick and get nothing down. Also, does anyone drink carbonated drinks, is it as risky as they say? I understand the whole high cal thing, but diet drinks? Fluids just go right through dont they.

I lost 75 pounds the first 6 months, then have not lost anymore for th last 6 months. I would hit plateaus along the way and not lose anything for a few weeks then it would kick in again. I have had three fills and that was enough for me. Hang in there, watch what you eat and exercise it will come off.

I don't think you should have to "beg" for a fill. I had lap-band surgery on 6/25 and I've had 2 fills already. I dont know how much but that's not the point anyway. My doctor schedules me to come in every 4 weeks right now. I don't have to ask him - he tells me! I have lost 43 pounds to date and am never hungry. Did your doctor give you a diet to follow? Are you getting enough protein? Do you kow how to calculate your protein nees? Also, the 100 oz of fluid per day is critical. It does not seem that your doctor is pleasing you so I would absolutely encourage your husband to find a new doctor. Be sure to find one with a good follow-up program of diet counseling and support.

If you are seeing Dr.Speigal in Tx. you in for a long hard road... my physician is fixing mistakes he has made ... i know of 2 people that THOUGHT they were getting fills and they were not getting NOTHING..... that is why there was no restriction... you need to check and make sure you are getting your fill...

i go to Fill Center in North Carolina... I CALL THEM when i feel i need restriction! and if you ask for it, YOU GET IT! lol! Dr. Ahigan is very aggressive witgh the fills.. I have good restriction and still only losing about 6 pounds a month (healthy way to lose, but not what we all want, i know! lol) i want to go to bed one night and wake up skinny... but that's not going to happen! Hang in there! Like everyone keeps saying, it's not a quick fix but a TOOL! and it WORKS! don't give up too soon!
