I am this close to boycotting Target

They just opened a new Super Target in town. I needed to get some new jeans (all mine are too big). Just one pair, that's all. I figured its new and it is bigger so they must have a bigger and better selection in the plus size dept.

WRONG!!

The whole "Women's" section consisted of 5 racks of clothes. Half of one rack was one style of capri pants in a few colors another half were these wierd plaid shorts. The rest were shirts. two steps to the right was the maternity section (which is two to three times larger) and two steps to the left is the sportswear section.

I kept walking around the area thinking I was missing something. I finally accepted that there were only indeed 5 racks to choose from I went went to get some underwear.

Based on the size scale on the back of the package I would have been a size 10. The only size 10's they had were in the granny pannie style. I know I have gotten the hippsters in my size at Walmart.

When I was this size 10 years ago Target had lots of "cool" clothes for the younger overweight crowd. Then they just stopped an only carried the bare minimum. Considering that half the country is in plus sizes I just don't get it.

When I was so frustrated I just had to get out of there I took my non clothing purchases to the cashier. She asked if I found everything and very nicely I told her that I was a little upset about the plus size section. She seemed rather sympathetic and said that most of the clothing lines went up to the XL sizes (I chose to take that as a compliment meaning she thought I could fit in to a non plus XL). She then admitted that she didn't realize they had a plus section. I chose not to say anything as the store has been open such a short time and the girl was as thin as a rail and the term plus size probably rarely crosses her mind. (Not that I hold it against her -I swear) She told me several times that she would mention it to the higher ups. I thanked her for her time and consideration for my frustration.

I think that even when I get down to a 16 and no longer have to shop in the plus sizes I will not shop at Target. They are almost completely ignoring a large part of the population.

I hope that you in internet land have more plus size friendly stores but I find that not to be the case here in Colorado.

I am curious to know if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks for listening.

Years ago Target had a large selection of plus size clothing but down sized. What they carry now is ugly and I don't even bother looking anymore.

In the past year the whole "buying clothes" had really been a nightmare.. Some would call the plus sizes "old lady clothes", but even the older ladies I know wouldn't buy them.. I swear the plus size designers made a point of making hideous clothing to make us stand out even more.. Floral tops?? flourescent striped shorts?? short sleeve shirts so short they get caught in your arm pits!!! There will always be overweight people in the world who are that way for a million different reasons as we see in here.. shopping should not be such a nightmare.

I hear ya. Typically we are just trying to fade into the background but the clothes they offer want to make sure NO ONE misses us. If you missed me before you can't avoid me now.

UGH! I totally agree with all of you. I used to be able to find nice things at Target, not now! I thought it was just my store that only has a couple of racks and it's crammed in with a huge assortment of maternity. On top of that they usually have other stuff and clearance and sizes amongst all of it too. I don't even bother any more either. Their website is just as bad. Hardly any selection and what is there is something I would NEVER wear!

I've been shopping at womanwithin.com and a couple of others. Sick of trying to find something to wear!
