I AM HAVING SECOND THOUGHTS!

I am getting really nervous about my surgery on 2/13/08. I guess I am having second thoughts. I read about how so many people are still hungry after surgery. I read about the honeymoon period and wasn't sure if that applied to lapband surgery or gastric bypass. I have such an gi-normous appetite right now and I am a stay-at-home mom and all I do ALL DAY is eat. I am sooo afraid that I will not be able to mentally resist eating. I know that with any diet, you have to be committed. Well, I know that I want to lose weight but food as such control over me I am scared. I felt that lapband would help me NOT EAT and eventually my appetite would go down. But if people are still hungry after surgery, what is going to help me resist my strong desire to eat. Am I not ready????? I feel I will never be 100% ready. Do I have the surgery and then deal with it as it comes? Help!!

I had surgery 11/29 and first fill 1/7. I still feel like I can eat a normal amount, but since the fill I stay full all the way between meals. Yes, there is still some commitment involved to not eat when not hungry. It's a tool, it's not a cure, but I do think it's worth it!

I am having the surgery on Friday. I am a little scared but feel I can do this. This site has helped a great deal. I have only been on it for a few days but it has really answered all my questions. Good Luck Annie

I had second houghts as they were wheeling me into the OR, but I am 16 days post-op and very happy I did it. I loved to eat, but it was time for me to get a life. I knew that if I didn't go through with the surgery I would regret it. 5 or 10 yrs from now I would say, "Why didn't I do it?" I was so afraid to eat in the beginning hat when I was upgraded from clear liquids and protein shakes 6 days ago that I was eating the same quantities as the people I met who had bypass. It will be a long road, and giving up the food is hard (I forgot to eat carrot cake before surgery...how could I over look that?), but having self confidence, feeling healthy, and being able to wear nice clothes will make it all worth it.
