Approved! (Surgery Date)

After two weeks (15 days) of submitting all the paperwork and requirements to the insurance, I finally got the call that I have been approved for surgery! They gave me July 7th for my surgery date and tomorrow I will be meeting with my surgeon so he can give me a physical and go through my medical history.Since the surgery is coming up pretty soon, I am starting my Pre-Op Diet tomorrow. I have to say that throughout this process I haven't been nervous at all until today that I actually know when my surgery is going to be! This is going to be my first surgery ever so that doesn't help with my nerves. I am so excited to get the surgery but at the same time I am a little scared. It feels somewhat unreal because when I started this process, surgery seemed to be really far away and now its like 12 days from now and like all this different emotions are going through my head but I am taking it all in as part of this journey.

Hey, I know the feeling! This was my first surgery too! I am now 1 week exactly post surgery and doing great! I was a bit nervous about the surgery (any sane person would be) but they treated me like a rock star at the hospital and (in my case anyway with a VSG) my recovery had been much less traumatic than I thought. I was doing stairs 2 days post-op and walking with no problems. Do follow the pre-operative diet carefully as shrinking your liver is huge. I only needed 4 holes because my liver didn't need to be resected, as opposed to 5 if it is still in the way.

Thanks for the advice. I really appreacite it. I started the Pre-op diet today and its pretty intense! or at least that is what it feels like to a big guy that is used to eating a lot more than that but it was gratifying knowing that I went through the day only eating that little and not dying lol. hopefully it gets better as the days go by.

Yes, the pre-operative diet is intense and obviously feels like a starvation diet. The point is to remove all the sugar stores in your liver so that it shrinks and is out of the way for the actual surgery. Really, this can speed-up recovery time since they need fewer incisions. So if you feel hungry on the diet, drink more water or diet drinks rather than being tempted to eat more food. If you need to cheat - eat more protein not more carbs or fats! It will be worth it in the end!

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
    • I'm literally almost crying reading this. Mostly because I'mon this pre-op diet and these last two days have been difficult... but also because I needed this! Thank you! Congrats! And a BIG congrats on quitting smoking a second time! It was hard enough to do it once... So - when I say BIG congrats... I mean BIIIIIG congrats! ❤️
