Weight Loss and Clothing Size

FibroDiva

I'm kind of frustrated. I've lost nearly 50 pounds since starting the pre-op program. Pre-op clothes that fit perfectly are falling off me. Pre-op clothing that was too tight are fitting just right. So yesterday I want shopping for some fall and winter clothing and the only thing that fit was in my pre-op clothing size. :-(

What gives. I never really liked shopping at LB but now I'm wondering is there something fishy with their sizing policy.

Sizing is sooooo stupid. I have lost 83 lbs and wore a 24-26 now I wear 14-16. Must try on everything because sizes at one store are so different from one to another. I so want a pair of regular jeans. I have never worn jeans with a zipper because of my weight. Asked all my DIL's yesterday where to go and what to look for. They said to be prepared to try on many pairs and the sizes can vary 3 sizes. It is not you. They have made clothing bigger and marked with smaller sizes. When I weighed 140 many moons ago I wore a 14 in pants. Now I weigh 190 and have bought some 14's that fit. What gives? Just go shopping and try on what you think will fit and go from there.

WOMAN'S plus size clothing is sized differently than Missy clothing. I wear a size 18 or 20 bottom and 14/16 top in WOMAN's plus. But I'm WAY far away from wearing these same sizes in Misses sizing. When I can get down to a 14 pants in woman's PLUS size, that will be around the same size as an 18 in regular Misses size. I'm already able to wear size XL or XXL in missy clothes for tops.. which is a size 18.. which makes sense since I'm a 14/16 in plus size tops. Hope that helps.

That explains it then, why women who look like they should wear a 16/18 claim to be a size 6/8. For example talk show host Wendy Williams claims to wear a size six skirt. Really? Really????? I did not wear a six in high school when I weighed 108. (That's 123 pounds ago.)

Thanks ladies. Now I'm not so frustrated. I think I'm going to weight until I hit 199 pounds and then go shopping again. I'm at 214 and I'm looking kinda frail so when I hit 199 I can reassess how much more I might want to lose.

Miss Mac, that is so funny. I agree Wendy Williams in not a 6/8. My daughter is a 6/8 and a good wind storm would blow her over. :-)

gals...I'm looking forward to being able to enjoy shopping for clothes. it's been many a year. :o)

I've decided to reward myself for weight loss by putting a little money away each month. Once I hit goal then I will go all out on clothes shopping

Last month I found tall jeans at Old Navy. They are labeled as "Long". I bought size 16. Now, one month later those size 16s are too big. :-)

Just found out that Water Tower Place in Chicago has a Tall Girl shop. Going to check them out after Thanksgiving.

Vicky says, "my Yaya [grandma] can wear Express, Old Navy, and JCPenny. Don't tell her what I got her for Christmas."
