I will only be approve for surgery if I have sleep apnea. How many people who had a sleep study ended up with sleep apnea? What were your symptoms? It's taking my insurance over a week just to approve the sleep study no telling how long it will take to get an approval for surgery.

I have heard that most people (at least around this site) who get the sleep study are diagnosed with some amount of sleep apnea. Being overweight seems to go with the apnea, which makes sense to me - more fat in the neck/throat area, it can close off when sleeping (this is information I got from my respiratory therapist). I did the required sleep study and was diagnosed with "moderate" apnea. That means I got a CPAP machine and will use it until I don't require it anymore. I suspected I might have sleep apnea based on a few symptoms - specifically waking up with a dry throat, and sometimes waking up to a racing heart in the middle of the night. I don't snore much at all, but the other symptoms are just as telling as the snoring.

Good luck to you!

I was waking up 3 or 4 times a night to use the bathroom, or so I thought! Turns out that I was waking myself up because I'd stopped breathing (for over a minute in some cases) I'd also never feel refreshed in the morning, snored like a grizzly bear and had a constant dry throat. I went for sleep study, DX severe sleep apnea and am doing fine on the CPAP machine. I am pre-surgery and hope that in time, that I can lose the machine and sleep normally on my own. I'd LOVE that. Good luck to you!

My snoring has gotten so bad that my husband wants me to sleep in the other room, I also wake up several times during a night and always seem to be tired in the morning. So maybe I do have sleep apnea, it would certainly explain a lot of things that i have been blaming on my hypothyroidism medication not being strong enough when my doctor says that my levels are normal. Hopefully I will get approve for the sleep study soon.

After 2 weeks of waiting for approval for sleep study, I found out that my policy doesn't require preauthorization for this procedure. What a waste of time but at least I now have an appointment for October 1st
