Guess what? Shingles and surgery don't mix

So I'm sorry to leave everyone hanging but my first blog would have been an hour long and I didn't want to overstep my welcome to this forum. Unfortunately a few days after my Lapsleeve surgery I suffered a very painful case of shingles on my back. My body was working against itself to heal not only my surgery but my shingles as well. That was a battle my body was losing fast. In and out of the hospital 5 times I am now 10 weeks post op and due to the diligence of my drs I am now finally starting to feel a little normalcy back in my life. The real unfortunate thing is I can't relate to many of your posts because I spent the first several weeks post op on IV fluids and soft foods. I didn't get to follow what the normal course of this procedure had to offer. I am actually just starting that now. I am 60 pounds down but that was a hard road. Would had rather done it the "normal" way. Hope nobody else has the same story. If so I would love to hear from you. Everyone have a great day.

60 pounds down is fantastic!! Sorry you had to do it the hard way!! I have had shingles 3 different times and it can really knock you down! Add that to the recovery of your sleeve and you were one exhausted soul!! I am glad to hear you are doing better and you have some great days ahead of you!! :)

I'm glad that you are feeling better, from what my mother says shingles can be worse that surgery, she got them right after she had her brain surgery I felt so bad for her.

oh man....you can get shingles more than once? I had them a year ago and was in a very dark place mentally for the worst two weeks of it. I sure don't want to go through that again. All in all, it took three months to completely clear up and quit stinging. I feel for you having to go through all that at the same time with your sleeve. Thank goodness your medical team brought you out and you were able to kick off some weight.

I'm sorry you had to go through that! I've had shingles once, on the back of my head and that was enough for me! Congrats on the weight loss and best wishes on your recovery!!
