A Spoon Full Of __________

blogs/blog-0220325001375787126.jpgMy surgery was Thursday August 01, 2013. I have Fibromyalgia and high blood pressure. Two of my meds are crushable; two are in capsule form and cannot be opened so I have to work with my doctors to find a liquid or crushable version.

I was in the hospital for 4 days. While there, I worked with my post-op nurse on this issue. We discovered that the two medications that are crushable will go down better and stay down if I sprinkle the powder over a teaspoon of warm chicken broth, or, plain tea or coffee and sip the mixture down and then quickly sip a second teaspoon of warm liquid.

CAUTION: make sure you work with your personal health care professional. Some medication is not intended to be crushed, even if it is a tablet and you can physically crush it.

Hi, fibro diva....I have had severe fibromyalgia since I was 42 am now 62. My surgery is on Aug. 19. How long have you had this and what meds do you take? I had a triple hernia surgery on May 8 and boy howdy did it really kick my fibro into third gear, but figured it was just another day just more pain. Now three months out of hernia surgery here I go again. I mainly take hydrocodone 10 mg, flexeril, Xanax, gabapentin, requip (RLS), omeprazole (acid reflux), losartan 100 mg (high BP). Never ending, huh? My doctor is really on top of the pain meds in hospital and have 4 scripts for after I get home.

Unable to afford CYMBALTA or Lyrica. Do you have sleep apnea? I am praying my weight loss will make it go away. It's killing me. Love your blog.

Rock on, Chickie!!!!

Welcome maggie914,

I have had Fibro since 1992. I was a police officer and sustained a series of injuries on the job over a very short period of time. I'm on hydrocodone, cymbalta, and gabapentin.

Since surgery I have not taken the cymbalta because it is a capsule. I see my Fibro doc next week to determine if there are dissolveable or liquid versions of gabapentin and cymbalta or lyrica.

Check out www.needymeds.com to see if cymbalta is on their assistance lists, or, the manufacturer of cymbalta to see if they have a patient assistant program. Just remember cymbalta is not in a form you can take after surgery.

Talk to your Fibro doc. OH, make sure you get you post-op scripts filled prior to surgery so you don't have to worry about it afterwards.
