No loss in one week/Dumping Syndrome

Well VST Friends,

I'm 3 weeks out from my surgery (6/13/13) and I'm slowing down on the loss. Today I added yogurt to my diet for breakfast this morning. I was told to introduce one food item, a day into my diet to see if I my new stomach would tolerate it. Well...bad choice today!

I experienced my first bout of 'dumping syndrome' today. My stomach was jacked up for about 1 hour. I had Yoplait Lemon Creme Pie and only 3 spoonfuls of the stuff (as I don't really like yogurt). Less than 20 mins after the last spoonful, I got a very uncomfortable knot in my stomach! It was like a tight ball of yarn!

I won't be trying yogurt ever again...needless to say! LOL I gave away the other two I had at work. I should just stick to my sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding and sugar free fudgesicles. They are fulfilling and taste great! The creamed soups are good as well (except the cream of mushroom...disgusting).

As for the weigh in today, I didn't loose a thing this week (which I thought was strange). My caloric intake was well under 500 calories per day, so I don't know why I didn't even drop 2-4 lbs for the whole week. Kind of puzzling. I will take a look a VST (Vertical Sleeve Talk) to see if any other people experienced the same kind of stall at this stage.

Oh well, I'm going to keep on with the diet and hope for the best. I'm hoping to be down 20 lbs by the end of the month...wishful thinking...I know. LOL But still hoping! I will keep you all informed! Pics to come on Friday!!! My one month anniversary!

TTYL!!

Hi, Aliese -

Two things:

Search for "3 week stall" or even just "stall" and you will find literally hundreds of posts discussing the lack of weight loss somewhere around the 2nd-4th week. It happens a lot. It is just your body taking a rest and adjusting. If you took measurements before your surgery and take some now, you'll probably see that the inches are still coming off even if the scale isn't dropping. If you stick with the plan, the weight will start coming off again soon.

With regard to the yogurt - I know you're not a fan, so it may not matter, but don't write it off just because it didn't do so well now. A lot of people find that certain foods don't sit so well right away, but if they come back to them a few weeks or months later, all of a sudden they're fine with that food now. I'm mostly telling you this so if it happens to you with a food you really WANT to introduce back into your diet, you won't get discouraged from it too quickly :)

Good luck!

Thanks SpaceDust! I will do just that. It's just hard to think that the stall is so soon. I figured maybe 3-4 months down the road but dang...this was quick. LOL I did take measurements but when I see myself, I really don't see that much of a difference. i see it a bit in my clothes when I put them on but not much. I haven't even dropped a pant size as of yet and I know that is probably just how and where my body is losing the weight but come on!!!! Ugh!!!

Yogurt is deceiving sometimes... be careful with sugars and carbs in yogurts. I only eat Dannon light and Fit yogurts or Carb Masters from Kroger. I have never had the dumping syndrome and am almost 4 months out. I like the sugar free fudgecicles too but only eat 1 a day at most. Another thing... I don't weigh at home at all. I wait to see the numbers at my Dr. visits. I have read so many that were discouraged due to increases or stalls. I won't weigh again till August. If I go through a stall, I won't even know it! LOL .............. Hang in there... each day gets easier and the journey is amazing!

Good points Diane_65. I will keep what you said in mind. For now, I will not even try yogurt. I can't imagine giving myself that kind of discomfort again and on purpose. LOL

I am sure your dumping syndrome was from the type of yogurt you chose. Diane 65 is right. I only eat chobani greek yogurt- plain flavor-- very high in protein--very low in sugar. I hated the taste at first but now I love it. I have never had a stall. But I really watch my carbs!!

I am going to be very careful with yogurt in the future. I will check out the kind you mentioned. Yoplait yogurt only had 10 g of sugar & 16 g of carbs and was 90 calories. My Ensure clear has 18 g of sugar and I did not experience dumping wtih that?

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
