Ok so I had my surgery May 16th only 5 days ago and I'm so worried I will never be able to eat my favourite foods again. I struggled with my liquid diet twice since I went in for surgery on April 8th and there were complications with the breathing tube. I redid the liquid diet and had a successful surgery last week. Harder the second time btw! Right now my family has a lasagna in the oven and I can't tell if I'm having hunger pains or just soreness from the surgery. I love pastas and bread and crave them all the time. Will I ever be able to eat them again in moderation??

my nutritionist told me yesterday that I could have small portions of carbs once I am 6-8 months out...she discouraged me, though, for things like the pasta and bread (I am Italian and love them, too), because they can trigger cravings again and definitely stall any further weight loss...I am hoping that months of healthier eating will put an end to my carb cravings, but I can't imagine never having pasta or a piece of bread again

You will be able to eat your favorites again! Just have to give it sometime. I am only 1 1/2 months post op, but I can eat just about anything, just not so much of course. You still have to be careful and make good choices, but done sensibly you can have anything. You will have to watch the pastas and bread (carbs). I try to limit mine, but not completely ban them from my diet. When I eat lasagna or something like that, I will take one bite then try to pick the meat and cheese out leaving mostly pasta. Of course, I still can only eat 4 bites and I am stuffed! I have lost my cravings for sweets almost completely and I find the bread cravings are slowing down. Still have trouble determining hunger pains from thirst, but I'm getting there. Hang in there!

you can eat whatever you desire once you're back on regular foods... but do you WANT to eat the things that caused the gain? yes... you will still lose... but at a much slower rate (I'm a living witness) Trust your decision to have the surgery...

Thank y'all for the help! I'm bad about just craving a sandwich lol. I know a lot of it right now is just mind games since I just started this and it will get better. I appreciate y'all taking the time to ease my mind!

After a month of preop and five days post, I am so glad to have lost most of my carb cravings. My best advice would be to start looking for ways to "redo" your favorites for a healthier you.

I look forward to feeding my family healthier alternatives of our favorites so they don't go through the same struggles I have most of my life. Their future health is half of the reason I had this surgery.

This is an awesome blog full of recipe ideas. I am still full liquids, but I can't wait to try out some of her ideas!

I'm over 2 months post-op and my sleeve just can't handle bread, at all. It makes me nauseous and uncomfortable. As for pasta, even whole grain just sits like a brick in my sleeve. I'm Italian as well and now I have to pass up on Sunday dinner (usually pasta) and instead make something for me. I struggled with this at first, but it's almost fun now because I've found such a different passion for food-- to create things that taste GREAT and are good for you! I've cooked dinner quite a few times for my family and they don't give a hoot about how nutritious it all is, but they go on about how great everything tastes! You may feel heart broken for a while, for me it was like a divorce or a death, but those feelings will fade with time. All those carbs are crappy fuel anyway, and your body is the most important machine in your life. Put good in, get good out. :] Good luck to you!

I am 9 months after surgery.. as memory serves .. about 2 months after I could have a small portion of just about anything I wanted. I find pasta and steak to be extremely filling though, even to this day.. but that is the magic of the sleeve. A little dab will do ya :) You can have a bite or 2 of ANYTHING you choose.. but be very careful about those choices and remember what got us here to begin with. I can also eat cheetos.. I can eat a lot of cheetos..lol crunchy things chewed well seem to be easy.. which means bad . I am kind of stuck at the moment, you become so addicted to running to the scale to see how many pounds you lost today.. well I did anyway.. then it was did I loose a pound this week? now.. I am back to my shakes and cottage cheese and not " testing what I can have" I know I do not NEED it and those things are why I had the surgery and the weight problem to start, So good luck, enjoy and remember to make good choices when you can.

Why would you go back to foods (starches/carbs) that got you in trouble in the first place. Try to remember why you had this surgery, protein & water should be your only concerns right now.

If your family is going to be eating foods that are trigger foods for you, maybe you could go out for a walk while they are eating it.

Remember this is for you --
