Has anyone chosen to buy a sleeve or ace wrap to bind your tummy after surgery? I am 3 days post op and I am finding my incisions painful and my belly jiggles a bit.

I have not heard of the abdominal binding, however I did have a lot of pain in my abdomen when I coughed or sneezed and it was difficult to get up and down and in and out of bed. My friend bought me a firm pillow to "hug" when it hurt. It really helped me a lot. Just a suggestion :)

One week since surgery and the pain is much better. I keep a pillow with me to help with getting up and down. I also try to use my arm and leg muscles more to keep pressure off the core (the physical therapist at the hospital taught me this when walking right after surgery). Hang in there....it gets better each day.

I did this after both of my C-Sections and it helped me immensely. I was actually considering bringing one with me just in case.

I think they provide quite a bit of relief - I didn't use one this time but I did with c-sections and they make sleeping so much better - like you said - keeps stuff from jiggling!

My surgeon makes sure all patients receive an abdominal binder while in the hospital (and then you take it home with you). It helped me the most of everything as far as minimizing pain when making positional changes or when coughing, laughing, sneezing, etc. My first one was bloody from the discharge from the drain so the nurse gave me a new one before I was released. She offered to let me keep the old one and wash it, but I felt a little queasy at the time seeing the drainage and declined. Wish I would have kept it bc it would have been nice to have a back-up while I washed the other one. I also wore it under my clothes when I went out for the first few weeks bc it made me feel like my incisions were sort of protected if someone bumped into me, etc. The binder also supported my back when my abdominal muscles felt weak right after surgery. As you can tell, I really enjoyed my abdominal binder (I feel a little like I am writing out an infomercial pitch)--and would highly recommend using one!

I haven't been sleeved, but when I had by gall bladder out, the hospital gave me a binder that I didn't use. it seemed to irritate my incisions more than anything else. But the pillow idea works. I also used a heating pad after I walked, it helped the soreness. It wouldn't hurt to try it out and see if it helps you!
