Struggling

Hello, my name is John,

I'm 19 months post op and I have lost a total of 130 lbs. I exercise 5 days a week for one hour and have really been watching what I eat. Believe me I researched nutrition a lot. I know exactly what's good and what's bad for you that's how I have been successful. However I've been slowly been allowing myself to indulge on the weekends. Basically eating whatever I want on the weekends and then returning to my strict diet during the week. Now my weekend habits are starting to work themselves into a day or two during the week. Still exercising!! I can eat more now and the other day I felt like I ate all day long snacking on healthy snacks however eating all day. I'm worried I'm heading towards destruction. Does anyone have any ideas to stop me from heading down that dark path? I haven't gained any weight yet but I fear if in keep going down this path I will. I need advise please help. I need to hear from people that have maybe experienced a similar situation and have gotten through it.

I am only going on 4 months post op. There are some days I just want to eat, but it is head hungry or head wanting. Just try to stay strong and if you mess up one day try very hard the next day to stay on track. Even with surgery this is still work and takes dedication. Let me know how you are doing.

I'm 18 months out and have had the same struggle. Right now I'm recognizing it and I'm eating proteins first. Yesturday I sore I wasn't going to eat any chocolate and I went to Trader Joe's and bought myself a chocolate bar.......Automatic without thinking. So no more buying chocolate for me........Will be more on top of things from here on out......One day will lead to another so I focus on protein now and just eating 3 meals a day......I do still drink a protein drink and will sometimes eat a protein bar for lunch...... In fact, yesturday I believe I ate way too much and ended up nauseous. Today I drank my protein drink and a little bit later ate a greek yogurt and I felt overly full and got nauseous. So I need to cut back on my serving sizes and not make myself finish it when I feel full. Back to basics. :)

Hey I am a few days away from surgery, so I'm writing to you to remind you of where you came from. Maybe make a list of the reasons you went through the hoops and struggles of having the surgery in the first place. It isn't an easy or cheep process. It sounds like it's been a while since you had 'fat people problems' like keeping up with people, fitting on airplane seats, or fitting on the roller coaster rides. Those are stil real for me so maybe you can go back to where you started and remember the reason you did it in the first place. Re-motivate....and the fact that you are still working out every day 1.5 years later shows you are committed!

Just recognizing where you are right now is huge...and coming here for support, too. I wish I'd come back for support before I regained after losing some weight with the band.

Preparing for a revision now, I've decided that I need a 3-prong approach to weightloss. Mind (support groups/counseling), body(exercise), spirit(for me it means prayer/positive self-talk/meditation). The psychologist who runs my surgeons support group gave the group this food for thought: You owe it to your pre-op self to take care of her/him. Once you lose the weight, don't forget her/him. Remember, to take care of that fat person by never going back there." For me, it was a powerful and motivating image. Bottom line, I can't ever forget that there's a fat girl inside that needs me to take care of her forever.

Hope this helps. As usual, take what you can use and leave the rest. Good wishes.
