2 weeks post op, and I GAINED 2 lbs?

Ok, I said I wasn't gonna weigh myself until Sunday, but I at least made it through the work week without weighing. I got on the scale, and was 2 lbs heavier than I was 5 days ago! How is that even possible, if I'm only getting in 400-500 calories a day? This is a lot of work, complying with all of the nutrition recommendations. I'm doing everything exactly as they say. Hard not to be upset or discouraged.

I went through the same thing. Who knows why....and I agree it's very frustrating. But I figure our bodies are doing a lot of adjusting and stabilizing right now so anything can be expected. Hang in there, it gets back on track. I just went to Europe for 2 weeks, didn't have a single croissant or piece of chocolate, or a plate of pasta (SO wrong in Italy) - totally stuck to plan, walked miles and miles each day, and came home 2 lbs heavier. Go figure. But I'm sticking with it, I know it will readjust. Good luck to you.

You might have just eaten something with a lot of sodium or something. Don't beat yourself up - you'll drop it and then some!

Holy Crap!.. i dont know what to say to that Joe, other then thanks for preparing me. I think i better stay off the scale. I don't want to see a weight gain. I think i would just sit in a corner and cry. well that said I know it isn't the end of the weight loss so keep up the good work plug along and you will see a loss soon.

I agree with kirk. Broths have ALOT of sodium in them. You may just be retaining water. At 2 weeks post op i gained 4 lbs and then one day they disappeared. Don't over think it. Its normal!

Thanks for the advice guys. I hear what you're all saying, but it is still upsetting knowing how hard this all is. I even told my wife last night that I "miss my stomach". I'd love to be able to eat a slice of pizza. I'm sure I'll look back and probably won't even remember this, and it does seem like a normal thing that people go through, so I won't stress about it too much. Someone in the forum said that as fat cells shrink, they fill up with water. Then, all of a sudden they let go of the water. True or not, I'm accepting that explanation, eases my mind a bit.

I'm a daily weigher.. but I don't worry about my daily or even weekly fluctuations... while I was on my 15 week preoperative VLCD I gained all the time.. on 800 calories a day. It's completely NORMAL.. I also stalled for nearly three weeks... also completely NORMAL. For a lot of people when you lose weight really fast while in ketosis, your body regains a bit because it may be re-establishing its glycogen stores. Nothing wrong with weighing in daily, but don't get bothered by fluctuations. Evaluate your weight loss on a MONTHLY basis... and even then remember that some months will be better than others.

Don't worry about it . I am a daily weigher too...can't help myself. With only 500 cal a day make sure you are getting plenty of fluid and protein in ......anytime I seem to stall I go back to the basic and make sure I am getting those two things in. Stay strong....it will come down.

Same thing happened to me, except in the hospital it said I gained 5 lbs after surgery! The dr's told me it was the liquids, IV that put on the extra weight. So just continue what you are doing, it does come off.

I'm a daily weigher and am so afraid of this. I see about a 2lb difference a day but so far its going down but im dreding that day i see it go up. I also gained almost 10 pounds the day i came home from the hospital but it was just water weight and came off the next day.

Hang in there could just be your body adjusting.
