10 day pre-surgery

I am getting the sleeve on 3/11 and am almost 2 weeks into my 3 week pre-op liquid diet. The diet isn't too difficult but I do miss food and it is making me kind of depressed. I am scared but going to do it anyway because I want to get healthy again and live a long life.

Can anybody tell me if food will be enjoyable again? I have read so much and lots of people say they can't eat still or don't want to eat still after several months post surgery. Food has been my constant companion and best friend for so long, I just can't imagine never enjoying the taste of it or looking forward to a great meal. I don't have a problem with only being able to eat just a bit of it but I do want to think I will enjoy what little bit I can eat.

Can anybody give me some guidance here? Did anybody have these same feelings? My mind is telling me right now that maybe I won't be happy, even if I do get thin, if I can no longer enjoy food. I am so screwed up!!

Thanks!

You are NOT screwed up!!! I have the same thoughts from time to time. I worry that I want this surgery and new lifestyle so bad - NOW - but what if after having it for a year or two I 'fall off the wagon' so to speak as I've done a hundred times before and this entire process is a complete waste.

Right now I can say that won't happen, but I've said that before when successful at a diet and I always end up in the same place. It's scary, but one thing I know for sure is that if I continue down the path I'm on now I won't be here to watch my kids grow up.

I just wanted you to know that you're not alone. This isn't a fun journey, but when I look at success pictures of other members I know that it's possible and I know I can do it. And, you can too :)

You certainly will enjoy food again. I am 2 months post op. And I enjoy everything I am allowed to eat, I do not feel deprived at all. I stay within my 800 to 900 calorie (as per my NUT) using "lose it" app (its free). I have decided to stay away from most carbs (which is my choice). I eat mostly protein. I eat 6 small meals a day, and feel quite satisfied. My sleeve tell me when to stop with the restriction it gives me, which sooo helps with portion control. I have struggled all my life with food, it really did become my enemy, and made me feel awful. The sleeve has become my friend and guides me through. I could not feel any happier with my decision. I feel fantastic. I can move with ease, I can make steps, I am not sweating all the time. I am off all my meds.. I feel as if I got a second chance on life. Give it time, all will fall into place, hang in there, life will get better..
