Chili is a soft food. Applesauce is not a liquid it is a mushy food. Check with your own NUT to see what is allowed. I was only allowed proteins at that stage so still no applesauce or other fruits or veg. no matter how soft or mushy. Everyone is different. I put my chili through the blender before I ate it.

According to the info I was given my my dietician, soft foods can also be crunchy foods that become mushy in your mouth before you swallow. Examples are crackers, unsweetened cereals with soy or skim milk, and cooked cereals. Mushy foods also include mashed potatoes, bananas, and unsweetened applesauce.
