Post-Op 28 Days - Passin Gas or Can You Smell What the Rock is Cookin?

blogs/blog-0918200001358904249.jpgGastronomically, things are crazy. I've been passing gas (and I don't mean gas as in gas station!) every night. I wake up at 1:30am or 4:30am belching and farting like crazy. I've passed so much gas I'm afraid to turn on the lights - I might set off a spark and cause an explosion.

I can lay on my left side and feel okay. If I switch to my right, I can feel and hear gurgling in my stomach. Don't understand that. But it all stops right after I wake up for work, I guess that's a small blessing for my co-workers. :-)

I'm thinking that since my bowel movements have slowed to every other day, the food sitting in my intestines has more time to ferment.

Anyone else experience this?

Guggles happen when I lay on my left side. I am just happy I can't hear it during the day! Sitting in meetings would be very interesting.

Awesome picture! Are you lactose intollerant? You might want to try a different protien powder or some Lactase before you take your shake.

Oh and I heard you can take Beeno with your beans and brocolli to stop gas. Good Luck!

Hollyrock100, thanks for the advice. I am not lactose intolerant, that I know of. I've never had gas like this before, but it seems to have stopped as of last night.

try experimenting with removing one thing from your diet at a time. I've read plenty about people who have different food tolerances post op. Take one thing out and wait 24-48 hours to see if your symptoms subside. If not, take something else out. Start with anything dairy - lactose intolerance is common after being sleeved for some reason, even if you never were before.

Also, gas-x makes strips. Sometimes pills take too long to kick in, the gas-x strips work right away.

I was never lactose intolerant before surgery, but was for the first several months after surgery.... try without for a few days and see how it goes.

At around 4 months, I had no problem with dairy.
