so i was sleeved on dec 17th! i see people being able to drink tea & coffee!

Does anyone have a good starbucks drink that they order? i heard you can ask for them to add protein which is great!

before sleeve i was the type of coffee drinker where the more lighter in color the better! so if i have to ask for low fat/surgar free anything thats fine! i just dont know what to order (even there teas!?)

also does anyone drink tea with sweet n low? is that acceptable?

thanx:)

I love the passion leamonaide with splenda, decaf skinny vanilla latte is great too. Just order a tall because it takes forever to drink it and it gets cold.

my diet plan said I could have decaf coffee with substitute sweetner e.g splenda, I'm a "big" Starbucks fan at least one grande a day for years, use to be a venti drinker; that was breakfast. In preparation for revision, I started to reduce size from venti to grande and recently went to 1/2 caffeine, now at decaf. Never had sugar, the mocha syrup was enough, which I always cut in 1/2 anyway. Today I'm 4 days post surgery and had a "treat." e.g. tall (the smallest size), decaf mocha, with only one pump of chocolate and no whip cream. I tried it with skim milk, but it was awful so I changed to 2% milk which I am to avoid, but it was a "treat" so I did have the 2% milk. I was only able to drink a few sips, but it felt warm and I felt human again. This new no sugar, no/low carb everything is very difficult for me; although I'm trying to stick with the diet plan. I haven't been able to eat anything except clear liquids since surgery - which is normal, though I'm not getting the amount of fluids I'm supposed to be getting, in.on a daily basis. Still in spite of the 2% milk I had today, I did so much better in my eatng today than I have since surgery. I actually felt full at one point and had to stop eating/drinking anything else. I feel a little guilty, but like I said, I also felt good to have something I actually enjoyed. Starbucks can make any drink you like the way you like it, but you probably have to start with a basic drink that you like and then have them make it according to your preferences. I have mine down to how many pumps of syrup to put in my drink - no foam (air), no whip cream and low sugar content, for me that is decaf coffee. Try different things until you get it right.

Hmm, never thought of giving Starbucks some protein powder to put in a drink. Good idea! So what do you do, just give it to the cashier in a little baggie when you order?

I was a Starbucks addict before my surgery. Venti white chocolate no whip was my drink of choice. I am almost 4 weeks post-op and I have found that a tall Gingerbread Latte nonfat no whip with one splenda does the trick. It has protein plus only has 150 calories. It does take me all day to drink it or i only drink half but i consider it a treat. There is a plus to giving up my addiction.. I am saving alot of money.

Decaf skinny vanilla latte, add one protein shot. No whip cream. Pros: 15 gm of protein without added protein shot. Cons: Lots of carbs (24gm) due to milk & depending on who makes drink the protein can be chunky

They have a spiced caramel apple cider right now. And yes they do have protein shakes ... strawberry banana, mango banana and something else banana. It's not advertised, but they do have it. You can look them up in mfp for the nutritional shakeout. The strawberry banana one is decent. Their tea is good too. But caffeine you are supposed to stay away from so it doesn't cause ulcers in your tummy I believe, more important I think at the initial part of your journey and as you move away from your surgery date, you will be more able to get back to coffee as you liked previously. Good luck!

This is a good question. In all my prep for my surgery (band to sleeve revision) I missed the part about no caffeine...I had the worst caffeine withdrawal headache post op. I would have weaned myself off if I knew I wouldn't be able to have any. I am actually drinking a little coffee today, just enough to make the headache go away (a couple ounces). I was not a big Starbucks drinker, didn't do lots of mochas or lattes, I just like a cup of coffee in the morning.

I guess it depends on how strict you want to be. I worked for starbucks for 12 years (I quit in 2011) and as far as I can tell (assuming things are the same)...here are some tips. Hot teas are okay...just ask the barista which one has no caffeine. The common catch phrase is herbal tea. earl grey, english breakfast, joy, green tea at starbucks all have some caffeine. As far as I remember the ones you are looking for are Calm (chamomile), the mint one I forget the name, and there is a berry tea. They might have some new ones. If you order Iced tea you can get it unsweetened. As far as coffee drinks...straight coffee is your best bet, but has the most caffeine. They have sugar free syrups which are vanilla, hazelnut, caramel, and sometimes they have a "holiday" one. If you don't say sugar free or non fat you will get the sugar loaded one and their drinks are standardly made with 2% milk unless you request something else. Sugar free syrups do take a little getting used to if you aren't used to "that" sort of of flavor. Caramel Apple cider is made with straight apple juice, a very sugary syrup, whip cream, and caramel drizzle on top...I wouldn't ever touch that. They do have smoothies, but keep in mind that they are made with a concentrate and high fat milk, and usually a banana thrown in there...so that is very carb loaded. If you go to a slow store, then talk with the barista, but just keep in mind that a lot of the times they don't really know the answers. If you do go, then just remember to ask for non fat milk and sugar free syrup and you can always get half decaf drinks also...Hope this helps
