Compression Garments Post-Op

I've been thinking about what I'll wear under my clothes after the surgery.  Right now I fluctuate between Body Magic (horrible when you have to go to the bathroom) and Squeem.  I tend to run cold so I'm always layering and if I can find something to nip and tuck, I'm game.  I've tried Spanx but they either don't stay in place or are so thin they are not worth it.

So as I read the many posts here about compression garments, I've wondered if anyone knows of any scientific studies that show they help.  I ask this because I didn't wear anything right after my c-section but once I finally started it was a whole new world...far less pain.  I always wondered if it was all in my head or if it really helped me in some way.

Now, in speaking with my surgeon, he didn't have a preference.  I'd like to go ahead and buy now (if it is worth it) during the holidays since there are a few promotions going on.  But I'd like to know if it was worth it for any Sleevers that may have tried them post-op.

Specifically,

  1. Did you find it helpful?
  2. If so, why...if not, why not?
  3. What brand(s) did you buy?
  4. What model/item?
  5. How soon after surgery did you wear yours?
  6. Was it painful to get into?
  7. Do you still wear it?
  8. Anything else that I should know to help me decide?

I'd really appreciate anything anyone has to offer regarding this.  Thanks!

ok so i dont have that great of insight on this but i will try. lol i had a c section as well and my father tried to drill into my head to wear a belly band. i never did. my friend however did and she looks AMAZING. you could not even tell she had a baby at all and everything is tucked in so nicely. im only 1 week post op and im going to my brothers wedding in a few days so i have to get some spanx. which i plan to wear daily. i am going to buy 2 sizes down as well because i no longer have incision pain. well i do but its minimal.

i think they help alot with keeping things in and formed lol. i only have one example of this working but hey why not try. i was watching those as seen on TV commercials and i wanna get the tummy tuck one. my friend swears by it as well. but i def have to push myself into some spanx this saturday in order for my dress to look decent lol

I can't really answer your question but I have seen little evidence that it makes much difference in the way you are mentioning. I do wear shapewear now, but that is because it makes such a difference in how I look and it is no longer uncomfortable! I am a 14 without shapewear, but more like a 12 with it.

Immediately post op i certainly did not wear compression garments and feel like it would have made me feel miserable. I was all about comfort during the healing process. My skin has tightened up much better then i expected, considering I have lost 123# and that is without daily use of compression garments.

@Taty thanks for replying, you have to let me know how the Spanx does for you. They have never helped me much, but I'd love to know how the newer ones are. I heard they did some redesigns a few years back so I'm interested in hearing how it goes.

@Cowgirl wow 123#! That is great!!! Okay so you didn't wear any. That's I guess my confusion because I wear girdles now, they aren't that uncomfy for me (probably because I've worn them so long) but I do wonder if they help with pain/saggy skin.
