I love this site ! I am still in the decision making stage. I have been struggling with this burden of lugging around all this weight and I am now ready to do this IF I find the right surgeon. I am going to a seminar in Hollywood ,Florida on Nov. 6,2012. I am concerned about the time off from work. I only have a couple weeks of sick time. Fearful that I don't lose the weight and fearful I don and then it comes back!Wondering if your not hungry after surgery and your completely healed? I wonder if everyone drinks the same protein drinks as weight lifters. I wonder how many supplements you take post op? How soon can you go back to work? How long is the pre surgery prep time and what is it?

1st of many entries for now,

Hattie

Welcome to this forum. When I started this journey I had so many questions too. When I went to my first visit with my surgeon he gave me a kit with a booklet that answerd my questions. He also answered them for me. I was assigned to a case manager and she emails me to see where I am in the process. It is a process. Each surgeon has their list of pre operative appointments, that has to be done before insurance will approve the surgery. It also depends on your health issues. For me, I had to see or have

  • Therapist
  • Nutritionist
  • Chest xray
  • EKG
  • Sleep Study
  • Gallbladder ultrasound
  • blood work

If you have already had some of these testing they can use them if recent. They want to ensure we are healthy enough to have surgery. I didn't go to the seminar we had the option of viewing video online or in person. Research all you can. This site is awesome. I also viewed the sleeved procedure on youtube. Its gross lol, but I wanted to see exactly what is going to take place

I am taking 4 weeks off. Everone is different. I read some posts where they took 1 or 2 weeks off. I think it depends on your age and type of work you do. I work in law enforcement and I am 47. I want to be healed and know how my tummy will be function. Some say, they experience excess gas after surgery.

I am going to try the isoplus whey 60 grain protein at Walmart. I heard chocolate and strawberry are good choices. No, everyone don't use the same protein drinks. Make sure its low in calories. My surgeon have their on store on site with the vitamins, mineral and different protein drinks. I will try different ones before surgery which I am hoping for end of Nov. I have completed all my pre oper as of yesterday. Good luck!!!

I was sleeved on July 2nd and returned to work on July 13th, but I have an office/desk job. I had to do 2 weeks pre-op liquid diet which consisted of low sugar protein shakes, clear broth and sugar free jello. For the shakes (and I've tried many) my favorite is Adkins Advantage Vanilla, Carnation sugar free milk chocolate, and I got from the Supplement SuperStore Level 1 powder in Ice Cream Sandwich and Chocolate Chip Cookie dough. There are a lot of supplements to take forever...B-12, Calcium, Vitamin D, Prilosec, and a Bariatric multivitamin. Plus B-1 fo the first 90 days after surgery. Your surgeon's plan may differ, though. The pain was minimal, I had 4 little portal incisions that were glued, so no stitches, and a pain pump that I removed by myself at home 4 days after surgery. I went home from the hospital about 36 hours after surgery. So far I've lost 101 lbs. I have no regrets!!! Please feel free to ask me if you have any more questions. Good luck!

Oh brother. I was home sick today and was laying down. The bariatric place called and left a message that the seminar was tonight and was I coming. There was a second message that I do not qualify for the surgery and to call if I had questions.

I called and they had my weight down as 140. They also made a mistake about the date. I live 2 and half hours away . I am not going there. I had faxed them paperwork twice and they couldn't find it. I did it via email and never got in touch until it was last minute. WHAT A BUSINESS.

Just frustrated and wanting to find a GOOD surgeon. I was unsuccessful on here but I'll eventually find the right one for me.
