Not Desired Results

This is not a pity party, but I am SUPER disappointed with my results 10 wks post op. I saw my surgeon yesterday and he made me feel awful because my results are so slow...10 wks, only 30 lbs. I average 600-700 calories per day. My highest calories to date are 900 in a day. I exercise about 1x per week (but more now since my dr. visit) and I eat the exact same way that I did before surgery, just MORE protein AND tiny portions portions.

Despite what my doctor believes, I ate healthy before and I rarely felt hungry. I was one of those who put my body in starvation mode by skipping breakfast and lunch on most days. Since surgery, I get hungry every 2.5-3 hrs, but I consume so little that I thought it was keeping my metabolism up. Apparently not. I am so behind in weight loss and I feel like a failure. I need to change things up, but I have no idea where to start.

My start weight was 264, I'm at 233 today.

i am still pre op but i have received my diet paperwork before surgery and my NUT specifically says protein is a must!! are you getting protein from oatmeal>??? i highly doubt as much as you would an egg or a piece of low fat cheese or even a greek low fat yogurt. i would try to revisit with your NUT to steer you back in the right direction. your diet just seems to lack protein and frozen meals the sodium in those can be really bad for you. when you get a 1/4 of what everyone else is happening. ask yourself if your eating protein, veggies then starches and carbs last IF there is any room left.

hey congrats on the weight loss so far!! i would LOVE to be 30 pounds down from where i am right now!! good luck to youuuu

Seems like you are not eating enough protein. If you join myfitnesspal.com you can enter all your food and exercise in and it tells you exactly how much fat, protein, carbohydrates and everything that you are getting and you can tweak it to get better results. I enter everything on a daily basis and it is very helpful and extremely motivating as it also tells you if you what you will weigh in 5 weeks based on your entry into your food and exercise diary that day. Check it out! I would cut down on carbs and bump up your protein though by the sounds of your diet above. I do NOT get "hungry" pursay....because protein keeps you full for longer too I find. I just know I am supposed to eat so I do. Hope that helps.

I would up the exercise... I walk, walk, walk... I find any excuse to get out of my chair. I'm 10 & 1/2 months out. Protein is the first thing I eat, then maybe a bite of veggies & fruit. I also use the myfitnesspal.com to track EVERYTHING I eat. You have to be honest with yourself, for the sleeve to work. If I feel I'm eating too much, I have a protein shake for a meal or one of my snacks! Good luck...

According to my nutritionist, five cups of fluids a day is not enough. Water isn't the only fluid, try yogurt, cottage cheese, some soups, and anything else that has a fluid consistency. My current favorite is low salt V-8 joice. Some fluids also have proteins, some even have a lot of proteins.

I agree with the comments above about ways to improve your diet.

I agree with everyone else. I am 9weeks and I consume 60-90g of protein a day, under 40g of Carbs and aim for the 64 oz of liquid. I have to consume 2 Premier protein shakes to meet my min protein for the day plus it counts as 22oz of liquid toward your 64oz for the day.

I don't see a ticker so not sure how much you had to lose but the less your start weight you might not be seeing huge numbers out of the gate but it all adds up. My Dr says anywhere from 2-4 pounds a week is on target and you fall right in the middle of that.

Try changing up your food and increase your water. Do they have you taking your vitamins and supplements?

Don't be so hard on yourself - as many say on this site it is a marathon not a sprint!!!

Don't be so hard on yourself!! One thing I know for sure, our body will lose this weight at it's on rate. We have to be sure that we are doing the right thing. I don't know about you, but I was not eating the right thing most if the time prior to surgery. That's how I got to where I am.

If I was to eat what/how I ate before, even in smaller amount, I would be in deep trouble lol!! I really want this surgery to work, so I made a total change. I use ( absolutely ) no oil in my cooking, I stay away from carbs and starches ( potato, rice, bread and such ). I always take in 80gr of protein or more. I drink no less than 64oz of water. I do not take use sugar ( or substitutes ). More importantly I exercised no less than 3x a week, from 45 mins-1hr

Keep a journal of what you eat for three days or so. Sounds like hard work but it's not. Just write down what you are about to eat, amount and time. Share it with your NUT and see what the NUT can change. That might do the trick.

Really hope your spirit is not down. You had a rough start but you can turn it all around. You can do this!!! We are all cheering for you:)

P.S 30lbs loss is still a loss, take pride in that:)

That averages 3lbs a week sounds like you're doing good to me. I think we all want instant gratification but be patient with yourself and up the exercise a bit. But at the rate you are going 156lbs will be lost in a year. What is awful about that? My doctor/surgeon told me 2lbs a week is a good rate. Slow and Steady wins the race!

My surgeon reminds me that we must eat to lose, told me to forget about counting calories, to eat high protein, low fat, few processed foods, no sugared beverages and just live my life. He was right. All this obsessing is part of how I got to be fat in the first place. Stressing, worrying, counting, pushing, and then the guilt......feel like a failure......and so the circle went.

Eat well, live well, love much and laugh often............and have faith this sleeve will do it's job!
