How Long Should I Be On Pre-Op Diet?

leener

I meet with my surgeon on 8/29, nothing has been mentioned yet about my pre-op diet. Should I start a full liquid diet on my own~or wait til I meet with my surgeon on 8/29 my sleeve surgery is on 9/6 ~ 8 days before surgery? Feeling confused, want everything to go right.

hi, all surgeons are different. my Dr. (or ins) did not require or even feel is necessary- a pre-op diet. I lost about 7 lbs. before surgery without trying- nerves I guess?

Yes, depends on Dr. but Honestly from what I have read. I think being on a pre op Diet is the best. It helps shrink the liver which makes surgery easiery for everyone around. I was unable to do FULL liquids but did 2/3 drinks a day and ate salads, 5oz chicken, or fish, VERY low carbs. It helps liver. Then 24 hours before surgery I did full clear liquids, popcicles, broth, jello, water. It was hard but so glad I did!

Good Luck!!!!!!!

I agree w/Darkkyss. I am on day 14 of my pre-op diet. I met with the surgeon after the 1st week and he said we could have baked meats and salads. Baked chicken has been my favorite this week! But it really does help shrink the liver and you want your liver out of the way to make surgery easier. Today is full liquids in prep for surgery tomorrow, but I think I will break this monotony with a sf popsicle!
