incontrol(almost)

hello everyone,

for those of you that have already had the procedure did you find it helpful to have someone stay at the hospital with you overnight or was it okay being left alone for the night? any ideas will help.

thank you for your time. :)

since i went to mexico, the only option was to have my guest AND ME stay at hotel ticuan, where there is no medical care provided. i would have had to wait for the van to go to the clinic 2x/day. no iv fluids, no meds. plus, my guest would probably feel like s/he was helpless. if you have to travel, try to go by yourself. your situation may be different then mine. remember, you do what is right for you!!!!!!!!!!!!

I desperately needed someone there--my sister stayed and I don't think I would have survived without her. Granted, my surgery was done in the afternoon, so it was the early post-op period for me. Second night I was fine on my own.

Nobody stayed all night with me at the hospital, but my friend stayed pretty late. I would have been fine either way because the nurses kept checking on me. I went home the next evening and stayed by myself overnight, but had friends and family visiting throughout the day and evening. 6 days after surgery my mom brought my 5 year old daughter back to me and we were just fine.

I had my hubby, but I sent him to a hotel. I could not see him sleeping at the hosp. The nurses were very good to me and I was a good patient. Only asking for help to the bathroom, because they told me to call. I mostly slept, good pain meds.

My hubby was there and left late evening. He then returned around 8 am next morning. I think you will be fine alone, you are pretty out of it and sleepy !

I think it would be good to have someone for the moral support. I was blessed to have my own personal nurse (a family member who's a RN) and I love them for that!!!!

I had an early morning surgery. I was happy to have my mom around, but did not need her at night. I was too sleepy most of the time to be much company for anyone. It was nice having her with me during the day though.

my surgery was 1st thing in the a.m. great nurses, pain meds in my i.v. and I felt pretty darn good. I sent my husband home to be with the dogs and I was fine.

I had my surgery at an army hospital so they wouldn't let my hubby stay. Plus we have 2 dogs at home. I did have a roomate and she was great to talk too. I was so sleepy in between that I couldn't tell you how long my hubby actually stayed when he came up to see me. When I got home, my hubby was able to stay home for a week with me, which was great because I needed him for the smallest things.

I don't think its necessary. My surgery was at 730AM and I literally slept ALL DAY. I didn't fully wake up until around 3AM and even then I was super lethargic and forced myself to walk. Don't get me wrong I was in and out of consciousness but as far as fully up and about it took me a while. I actually would have felt bad if my friend would have stayed there all night with the way I was acting. lol. But, the decision is totally up to you!
