So I am having surgery by Dr Alan Posner on Aug 7, 2012. I am scheduled for VGS and am a previous bander that obviously failed. My mom, who is sooooo excited for me to have this surgery wants to buy me one piece of clothing that I could wear once I lose some weight. I told her to buy me something in a size 18-since I have not been that size since I was a senior in high school. But I am wondering how this is going to work. I mena with lap banding, I ate, vomitted, ate, vomitted, got filled, ate, vomitted, etc. Is that what this is going to be like or is this ;like a guaranteed weight loss thing. Then how are you supposed to eat? Is there going to be a special diet to follow until you reach your goal weight. I mean....I am so lost and have a million questions and surgery is like in three weeks. Maybe these are things i should ha ve thought about. I was too busy asking questions like what is the dr's stats, etc....Anyone can help??

With my VGS i had to follow a diet before surgery. Two weeks before surgery was two protein shakes and a salad with protein. Three days before surgery was clear liquid only, broth, sugar free jello, sugar free popcycle. 10pm the night before surgery nothing. That in it self was a batttle which i concerd. The Surgery was new and scary to me, i followed doctors orders. After surgery i walked as much as i could which moved the GAS and helped the pain. I'm 2 weeks post and have never vomitted. Went back to work one week after surgery. This surgery is so much better than the lap band or bypass. Good luck!!!

I am three months post-op. My doctor required four nutrition classes--three before he would do the surgery and one at one month post-op. It sounds as though your's didn't offer/require any.

One thing stressed during my classes was that this was a diet for life, not just until reaching goal weight. The following site may help answer your diet questions.
