Things I Didn't Know (Lol)

Let me say to every who is think about having this surgery DO IT!

Man each day is just getting better and better. Many people choose to undergo this surgery as a means to improve health not looks. If your suffering from sleep apnea, diabetes, high blood pressure or other obesity related illness, this is the reset button!

i'm 3 weeks post op and no longer need my CPAP, blood pressure 120/80, Blood suger 128. The day I got home I walked one mile and have increase that until now i'm riding six mile on my bike. Also waiting for clearance to lift weights.

Now the downside: I was not aware that I was not to eat more than 1oz, so of course i was trying to eat the allowed 4oz, I figured out that will not happen right now. I think it was a mind thing because I am almost never hungry. Still working on the fluid increase i was able to drink 80 for a couple of days but, that started reflux, so if any one has any ideas on dealing with that let me know. My reflux shows up about 5 to 6am every morning for the last week and a half.

The fact that i can get out and be active again is so cool! I'm down to 225, but my focus is to get physically fit again. So I hope for those how have doubts that we on the forum, can give you the info you need to make a educated choice. this is a tool not a miracle cure for obesity, so if you can start approaching food and exercise with the right attitude you will be well on your way to being healthy.

Thanks Terre Polite,

I am on the countdown to my sleeve, April 10th and starting to have the pre-sleeve jitters! Asking questions of myself like...Do I really know all the ins and outs of the operation and long term effect on my life (health wise)? Do I have realistic expectations (to have most weight off within a year?) Will I really use this tool to my benefit or will I be weak and undisciplined (like what got me here in the first place)? I keep thinking that even twenty pounds lost will feel so much better and allow me a bit more energy and desire to workout (starting immediately with walking). Well, thanks for sharing you post, it helps in these times!

Glad I found the blog! I just found out that I was approved for my surgery and a tentative date and the jitters have definitely kicked into high gear. Congratulation on your success thus far. I look forward to watching your progress!

Welcome!

You're right about the health improvelements. I'm certainly enjoying some greater physical and emotional benefits that goes with weight loss!

Regarding your acid issues, are you taking any kind of PPIs? I've found that Prilosec (Omeprezole) works amazing for me. Other brands are Nexium and PrevAcid. However neither of those worked as well for me. Everyone's different though and the best way to know is to give each medication at least 2 weeks trial, and using them as directed on the box.

Good luck and congrats on all your successes so far! May you have many many more to come.

As with any life changing decision this one has questions as well. My goal was not to be fifty and fat. I was not a big kid and really put on weight in my late 30's and early 40's and when I turned 47 I realized I was dying a slow unnecessary death.

Now at that point I could choose to continue on that path or make up my mind to make changes that where in my own best interest. Choosing to be the best you that you can, should be everyones goal, because a healthy self regard is a sign of self value and love.
